My dad took the family for a boat ride today down the river by our house, and I noticed a small chain of islands the would be perfect for a small PTO island raiding game. One particular island that looked promising is about 1/16th-1/8th of a mile long with plenty of vegetation and cover. Here's what I was thinking for a scenario: Boat drops off defending force on island, then heads back to attacking force's assembly area. Time is allowed for defending force to dig in and prepare for the attacking force. An armed recon (transported by boat) is preformed around the island by a small detatchment of attacking force, (this counts as trigger time, by the way ) The rest of attacking force prepares for the initial assault. Planning and briefing. Main Assault: (This part is probably best taken place at dark or dawn) Attacking force is inserted by boat onto island, then the battle takes place. So, anyone interested?

Out in the Michigan sticks. A little town called Lowell, about a half an hour outside of Grand Rapids. Here: www.mapquest.com/mq/8-*7tPHXlG The islands are actually visable in the SSW portion of the map.

Hey that looks cool Drust but do you have permission to play there? It would be a great event. Unfortunately I don't have a PTO Impression so that counts me out.

It's neutral land, nobody owns it, and nobody's ever out there, so yeah, it would work. And it doesn't have to be restricted to PTO, there were some island raids in the ETO (I believe the History Channel did a piece four years ago on the 60th anniversary of D-Day about secret raids taking place on the German-held channel islands of Jersey and Guernsey)

Or it could just be a fictitious battle, that's be cool, like make up the storyline

That could be a possibility, but at that point, it's no longer a reenactment anymore, it's just an airsoft game. As reenactors, our job is to relive history, not rewrite it.

It's neutral land, nobody owns it, and nobody's ever out there, so yeah, it would work. You may want to contact your local law enforcement before making that assumption. There really isn't any such thing as "neutral land" that "nobody owns." If the river is a navigable waterway, then the government probably owns the islands. Probably better to get permission first than to end up on the evening news.

Yea I agree with Garrick on this one. It would just be the right thing to do before you start a public battle.

No, I agree too. I was going to talk to the city before we'd do this because the last thing we need is a SWAT team assaulting the islands because a bunch of crazy "militants" are running around with "automatic weapons".
