There is a unit in progress in NY. 3rd Inf Div (15th Inf Reg). Russian would be cool, I started a kit a little.

Those are links to gryphon's custom Soviet Airsoft guns. He's the 198th Rifle division commander. Having personally seen both his custom PPShs and Mosins I can say they look and work great. He also made a DP28 that looked like a relatively easy M14 conversion (Thread in the armory section of this board, I'm too lazy to link it).
If you don't go the custom route for Soviet, I'd suggest an MP40 or a Thompson... FOR A STARTER GUN (I'm not trying to reignite the 'Soviets didn't have .45 ammo' or 'Picking up enemy guns' arguments). The dearth of Retail Russian Airsoft guns requires that compromises in historical accuracy need to be made if you want to have a Soviet impression (unless you're a good gunsmith already).
Heck, get a VSR-10 clone with a wood stock and it also would suffice for an entry level rifle.

The parts are cheap... its the time and effort that you're paying for... I bet we could make the guns too.
Personally i have no artistic ability so shelling out $500 for somebody elses work isn't a problem!
Especially one of those ppsh's!

Yep it's time you are paying for. If I could mass produce them from injection molds I would make them a lot cheaper. You can probably get a PPsh kit and put it together without too much problem and it will come in less than 500.00 I think.
