Well everyone else was doing it so I had to follow along...I've had most of the parts for the better part of the year but just got around to putting this together. I got the metal bits from Warren at Scoot and Shoot in an exchange for shipping him something he couldn't get. Great guy and was really nice of him to offer them to me. I just needed to buy the wood and do a little work. Notice these two piece are one piece. These are cast in brass or bronze by Warren as is the front piece, really a great design I think. The set screw is under the front sight. The wood was from two different sources. You can also see the copper pipe I used for my outer barrel. I didn't want to cut down the handguards and didn't like the little gap on the M14 outer barrel. A complete new outer barrel seemed the right decision to me. It was very easy to do. I have a bit more work to do on it but the major surgery is over with.

what size copper pipe? And you completely replaced the outer barrel with it? Are you using a spacer of some sort to keep the inner barrel centered? Also how coem you didnt extend the copper out past the gas lock? Sorry for so many questions just love Garands and modifying stuff.

I believe it is half inch you can find it at any Lowes. You need to take your drum sanding bit on a dremel and widen the channel the barrel sits in in the reciever slightly and I mean slightly. It is maybe an 1/8 inch or less bigger than the M14 barrel.
The pictures I have seen of garands don't extend past that point maybe I should look at some more pics. There are small gas you can pick up at lowes in the same area. The OD fits almost perfect in that copper pipe and if you take a drill bit to the OD just to knock the crud out your inner barrel slides in nice. This both gives it weight and centers your inner barrel.

The barrel extends about half of an inch past the end of the gas cylinder lock on the real garand. It had to in order to mount the bayonet. I just wedged a small piece of the copper tubing on the end. As seen here, although mine may be a bit long. i333.photobucket.com/albums/m391/supernube/Sept-Oct2008004.jpg If you paint it first, it wedges in pretty tight and it's a cheap fix if it falls out in the field.

Great job Dan. Initially on perhaps my first 30 conversions I didn't add the barrel tip and I'm afraid alot of people may have modelled their own after that oversight. Supernube is correct and his barrel tip looks spot on. Easy add on. The brass fitting looks like a nice set up. I'll look forward to seeing the finshed effort. As I've said so many times it's great seeing so many additional Garands getting finished and home built and it'll be even greater seeing a bunch of them on the Airsoft fields.

Do you plan on doing the bondo work? I think it was a great Idea buying a new barrel. Extending the old barrel is hard work probably the hardest part in the conversion other then maybe the Bondo part. You still need the swivels for the Gas cylinder and ferrule. anyhow Great job.

I don't seem to see the custom parts on the Shoot n Scoot website, did you have them custom made?

He doesn't sell just the parts as far as I know. He sells whole guns maybe even a kit to convert but not just these parts. He bought something on ebay and the fella was unwilling to ship to the UK so I facilitated that for him. He asked me if I needed anything in exchange and he sent me these parts....Great guy.

I have a question about your copper pipe, I'm thinking of converting an M1 and heard how hard the barrel is to make it longer. Now, I haven't seen an M14 but the outer barrel (copper pipe), is it skinny, or thick to fit the inner barrel of the M14 in it. If you didn't understoud what I meant, sorry, it was hard to explain. But my real question is, how hollow is the copper pipe? Rob

You add an insert. I'll take a picture of what I am talking about to make it clearer for everyone. You definitely need the insert to center your inner barrel and keep it from wobbling around in there. Working for the next 5-6 nights so it may take awhile but I might be able to take the pic and get it up on the web today or tommorow.
