p-47 thunder bolt razor back. Your skins for that razor back are a little out of date. The us stopped using razor backs in europe in 1943. Razor backs were also not used over normandy. The bubble canopy versions were used on normandy. The bubble canopy didnt come out until the p-47d-25 / 1943. They still used them but they didnt use them for normandy. And me 109.

The fact is that the P-47D saw service over Europe until the end of the war. P-47Ds were still being made even when other plants switched over to the D-25 version, hence the bare metal Ds we see in pictures like the ones Gordak posted.
Virtually all versions of the P-38, P-39, P-51, P-47, B-17, B-24, B-26, P-35/75 ect......... Saw service in one theater or another with one country or another until the end of WW2. And luckly unlike some of the oddities we see with equipment set ups and various other things in WW2 infantry reenacting where it was done once and thats it, chances are that if there was one P-47D in bare metal with invasion stripes there were at least a dozen others if not more on one fighter base with that same paint scheme. Or even a B-17 fitted with a 75 millimeter cannon in the nose in the PTO, chances are there was at least one more done that way....and there were at 3 actually done this way lol and with such small numbers of B-17s in the PTO this is a big thing.

The thing about the strips is whether or not the aircraft saw servce over normandy, the aircraft in europe still had the strips painted on them regardless.

how old are you? Just say your wrong, its ok, no one will think less of you. You said that the razorback should not have stripes. Fighter bomber losses over Normandy were 50%, under that kind of stress, Im sure there were razorbacks in combat there. There is even color footage of mixed formations of razors and bubbles out there. -Gordak

Razorbacks did fly over Normandy both on the pre-landing bombing missions and during the actual landings . This Razorback was shot up during a strafing run over German lines and was forced to make an emergency landing on the beach head This one is flying home after a mission over Normandy D-Day plus 7

Okay sorry I was wrong. I'm 16 people say teenagers are supposed to know everything so I'm living up to it... Not! My specialty is the corsair. I know a lot about the p-47 but not as much as I do about other aircraft. The P-47 is my fathers specialty though. When people start to glorify the P-51 mustang, thats when things get a little off of the scale for absolute sound off from me. I will not stand for that kind of arrogance. ;D

I cant stand spitfires, They are EVIL, and their few disadvantages are often over looked in computer games, so they end up being a totally evil dog fighter. -Gordak

The Hurricane was better than the spitfire. The mustang though was the worst out of the 2. And I quote from an eagle squadron pilot. "When we went up in those 51's, I felt naked in them" Aviation history magazine.

How is a hurricane better than a spit? You mean it could turn better than the spit? because that is pretty much all its got on a spit. and both better than a mustang? Yeah an allison mustang kinda blew... if thats what your talking about. you need to elaborate, but don't because it will just a be a waste of time. making really general statments about aircraft that changed constantly 39-45 is always going to look wrong from one persons perspective, I remember 16, I was nuts, I knew lots of ww2 pilots, both German and American, but I still didn't know 10% of what I know now. here is my recomendation, do about 5 more years of research then go on the ww2 aviation boards and argue your points -Gordak

Gordak , do you use a joystick and pedals configuration to play or do you use the keyboard?

Hurricanes are made of wood. They are slow, flimsy and defiantely NOT better than a spit. The only advantages are as Gordak said agile, and they have heavy firepower. Any Spit variation can outclime, outrun, and completely rock a hurri in virtually any circumstance.

I wish flight simulator programers would make the planes have the characteristics of the real ones , i hate being chased by a Spit during the Battle of Britain , climb and go inverted to take full advantage of my 109's fuel injected engine and find the damn Spit still chasing me , instead of falling away from me because the Spit's carb is out of gas. THAT SUCKS!

Adler, have you tried IL2? its one of the best for realisim. I use a CH Flight stick and Rudder Pedals, with Track IR head tracking, Im really really hard core about it. here is my really old ww2ol gun camera footage (I was a bad shot back then) www.youtube.com/watch?v=h1VyYIfZ2Dswww.youtube.com/watch?v=OfAri2xzeVIGuitar Master, Those Airplanes are custom expansions for FSX.

That kicked ass years ago, like almost 10 years ago I think.

My fav flight sims are Aces High (not very realistically played, but still fun as hell) Il 2 Air warriors, back when I was a kid! Target Tobruk (I still say is amazingly realistic)
Adler if you havent tried TT, I highly reccomend it because they ahve a large focus on Italian planes and its free!! I have to check if they are still up and running, I havent played in a while

I totally love the Heinkel He-162 Salamander Volksjager. Despite the fact that it was intended to be easily flown by anyone, specifically Hitler Youth, but in reality was much more of a challenge then intended, the plane looked great.

For me the perfect aircraft / weapon combination for a WWII extending into '46 scenario would have to be an ME262 armed with the new Ruhrstahl X-4 Air-to-Air missile using the "Pudel" acoustic homing system instead of the Wire guidance system , B-17's and B-29's would have been in a world of hurt.
