A friend picked up this bag because they know that I'm into collecting wwii militaria and because he had no idea what it was exactly for. I have come to the same conclusion so I thought I would post some pictures and ask you guys

its half of a mortar round vest...i think this was used by the mortar team leader with the ammo bearers having the full front and back model.they were used for 60mm mortar rounds and bazooka rounds.sometime 2 81mm rounds in their tubes would be jammed in instead of the normal 3 60 mm round depending on what you were crewing.

Also bazooka crews would use this bag as well. Someone must have modified it. It could be as cool as a rigger may have done it or some kid in the 50s. Its a nice peice of gear though. I would look for a date on the bag to clarify.

Looks like someone cut the straps of two gas mask bags, cut the vest in half, and the sewed the straps onto one half. I've got one that wasn't cut in half, it really is much more awkward that way than having the straps.
