Gerry, I saw that trailer and tried to find the movie, but couldn't. I saw a movie like it (it might've been, looked a lot like that).

It might of been Saints and Soldiers, maybe thats the one you might have saw Medic.
Whats more motivation in joining than having a tank on your side?

Hello everyone, I look forward to seeing everyone that I met last year at this next event. I have a few thoughts on the WW 2 camp experience. To get the full benefit of such an event like this it is important to try to stay as authentic as you can within reason if we try to keep the campsite as authentic as possible you will get a better feeling of what it must've been like for the soldiers. Authenticity can be maintained at a reasonable cost things like the good reproduction uniform and you do not have to go crazy like every button must be the exact period color. But most of all let's try to keep the campsite authentic I've enclosed the photograph of my campsite from last year as an example. Yes the tent is from the 1950s but is close enough to be within reason these tents are very inexpensive compared to original WW2 reproduction one's. I guess what I'm driving at is that we will enjoy the experience much more if we try to keep modern gear out of the campsite and try to relive the experience that our soldiers did. Just my thoughts , piper.

Great pic. I agree completely. What makes "period" airsoft events unforgettable is losing ourselves in the moment. For a weekend we can go back to the forties and fight for our country. Sights, sounds, scents, etc.... these are where the lasting memories come from.
To add to Piper's comments above, people's attitude and behavior can also add greatly to everyone's experience. This is not an event about winning or losing, it is about an immersive experience. In depth medic rules and role play will make getting shot just as much fun as shooting. Leave conversations about ipods and Obama at home. Little personal items like period correct boxes for your cigarettes and fake letters from home really add to the experience.
People put a lot of time and effort into their period uniforms and gear. I recommend putting some time into your character impressions as well. Where are you from? What got you into the army? How long have you been overseas? Have any brothers in action? Girl back home that you want to marry when you get back? Role playing your character while in the field may seem a little weird to some people, might seem awkward at first, but you will see that it really can build the experience and the memories of a great event. The impression goes much further than just our uniforms and field gear.
Just my suggestions.

Conversations don't really make or break, but it would be nice.... At Mignano everyone had a good 10 minute talk about F.Y.E and bugspray (someone almost threw the aerosol can in the fire) . But everyone here on the East is really good with that stuff, it went well last time. Most people really don't take time to make a personality, and it does seem a little weird to me. I can see, however that people would do that.

Oh that reminds me....BRING YOUR OWN BUGSPRAY. Seriously, you'll need it. Last East Coast WWII Ed(I THINK) was the ONLY one with it and EVERYONE used it. Not cool.
On the subject of period conversation...I never bought that whole thing but different strokes for different folks I guess.

I definitely learned one thing if you wanna get a decent night's sleep bring a can of mosquito foggier. To spray in your tent about 30 minutes before you turn in. This wipes them all out for the night.

Nice posts guys! Your mindset when you step out of your vehicle plays an important part on what you gain from a weekend reenactment. Unfortunately all reenactors do not have the same standards, one unit may be completely immersed in the event, to the point of actually speaking the German language, making up and living their first person impression and taking hits in dramatic fasion, others will speak english, smoke filtered cigarettes and when hit just remove their helmets and bullapplesauce in the line of fire nothing can kill a moment more!
When you step out of your car try stepping into1945!
But most of all do it for the reason we do this..... to have fun.

But everyone here on the East is really good with that stuff, it went well last time. Most people really don't take time to make a personality, and it does seem a little weird to me. I can see, however that people would do that. I will say that the groups that I have been associated with go a LONG WAY to making their character impressions worth while. After each event I have attended, the number one item on everyone's feedback list is the same: Immersion in the era is what makes the event unforgettable. I can't understand why someone would want to take the time and effort to study a period of history, purchase gear from that period, dress up in character from that period but then act like a guy from 2009. If 2009 milsim is what interests you, play modern airsoft. Again, just my take on things based on my experience with "period airsoft". Acting in character is the hardest part. Getting gear and uniforms is easy, but playing the role is really difficult and believe me, it is worth while. It allows you to keep your head 'in the moment' while out there in the field. In my opinion, dedication to "immersion" is the main thing that differentiates 'period' airsoft from modern airsoft. Enter the event with the mindset that you have just landed overseas in 1945, and it will be 1945.
