Wacht am Rhein was supported by subordinate operations known as Bodenplatte, Greif, and Währung. Germany's planned goal for these operations was to split the British and American Allied line in half, capturing Antwerp, Belgium, and then proceeding to encircle and destroy four Allied armies, forcing the Western Allies to negotiate a peace treaty in the Axis Powers’ favor. The Ardennes offensive was planned in total secrecy, in almost total radio silence. Although Ultra, the Allies’ reading of secret German radio messages, suggested a possible German offensive, and the United States Third Army predicted a major German offensive, the attack still achieved surprise. The degree of surprise achieved was compounded by the Allies' overconfidence, their preoccupation with their own offensive plans, poor aerial reconnaissance, and the relative lack of combat contact in the area by the U.S. 1st Army. Almost complete surprise against a weak section of the Allies’ line was achieved during heavy overcast, when the Allies' strong air forces would be grounded. The “bulge” was the salient that the Germans initially put into the Allies’ line of advance. Most of the American casualties occurred within the first three days of battle, when two of the U.S. 106th Infantry Division’s three regiments were forced to surrender. The Battle of the Bulge was the bloodiest of the battles that U.S. forces experienced in World War II; the 19,000 American dead were unsurpassed by those of any other engagement. For the U.S. Army, the battle incorporated more troops and engaged more enemy troops than any conflict before that time. The German objectives ultimately were unrealized. In the wake of the defeat, many experienced German units were left severely depleted of men and equipment, as German survivors retreated to the defenses of the Siegfried Line. The Siege of Bastogne was a smaller battle in and around the Belgian town of Bastogne, during the larger Battle of the Bulge. Success of the German offensive, seizure of the harbor at Antwerp with encirclement and destruction of Allied armies, required the German Army mechanized forces to use the roadways in order to maintain the speed of the offensive. All seven main roads in the Ardennes mountain range converged on the small town of Bastogne. Control of the crossroads of Bastogne was vital for both sides since Allied control acted to reduce the speed of the German advance while German control acted to increase the speed of their advance and improved resupply of the German columns as the poor weather conditions made cross country travel difficult. The battle lasted from mid-December 1944 to January 1945.

Will definitely try make it out to this one. Can't garuntee it yet, but its very very likely. I posted what I'll bring in the general 3rd FJ new event thread, but here it is again. I'll attend in my 26th div. rifleman impression here's the extra stuff I'll try to bring down for participants lacking equiptment 82nd ab pathfinder m1942 jumpsuit medic yoke, pouches, brassard, properly painted medic helmet, misc. medical items m43 jacket (26th inf. patch) "tanker jacket" (26th inf. patch) m41 jacket (26th inf. patch) m1942 re-inforced jumpsuit (82nd or 101st insignia) 1-2 extra wool trousers 1 extra wool shirt 1 .30 cal MG (2 man crew weapon) 1 set of Jump boots (size 13) possibly 1 set of type II service shoes with leggings 1 complete airborne webgear set (m1936 suspenders, m3 and m6, mussette bag, pistol belt, 3 rigger pouches, m1943 e-tool, and m910 canteen, cup, and carrier, also F/A pouch, and airboren F/A pouch) 1 m1-c helmet w/net and scrim Thats all I can think of for now, there will probably be more by the time the event rolls around due to my ever-expanding war room. I'd really love to make this event top-knotch for authenticity, so I'd gladly share for people to improve their impressions. PM me if you plan on attending and need any of the various items to borrow (or buy!)

My dad is going to take me up. My user profile says I am 17, but really I am only 15, as why he is taking me up. I have a question, is there any place that he could either go, maybe a sports bar, or a place for him to spectate the game? He isn't into airsoft, and doesn't have an impression. I don't want to leave him in the breeze.
I will be there in my 29th Infantry Impression
Thanks.

Does he know how to film? I don't know if they have a cameraman yet, but if not he could work the event. Just have some eye protection and witness the whole thing and provide a finished product that everyone wants. You'd have to ask the event organizers and see if your father wants to do that.

He used to film my football games when I played (1st grade to my freshman year of highschool). I am sure he could do a pretty good job at filming. I will contact the organizers to see if I could confirm if he is aloud to just go and film. I could let him use my ESS navigators, as I may be using my Wiley X's for a more low profile look.
I might give him a few lessons on how to film (not only filming me, haha) and show him a few WWII military films, to give an idea what it should look like. I think I will have to give the memory card to somebody else, like Gordak, to edit it, as I don't think I have the software, nor does he.

I will have an easy to use and very effective hard drive camera at the event ready for someone to use. As long as the cameraman wears eye protection and is very careful, I would be happy to let them film. I know when I gave Chris my camera at the last game, he did a great job filming and all I had to do was transfer the movie files onto the PC via usb cable. I have some pretty good editing software that I use. heres one of the videos youtube.com/watch?v=3xdPk3A_yy0Let me know if you have any other questions, my father owns the property and I'm the only one here who lives in Amsterdam. If your father wants to do something other than be a spectator, we can find something. There are plenty of places around.

No, they are a dark OD polyester. Can we still use them? We used burlap sandbags at the MTO event because they were so authentic. Problem is though that they rip apart when sprayed with aeg fire. The bb's have a way of serating the bag and many of the bags could not be reused. The polyester bags are probably more durable but less authentic. I guess it is up to the event organizers but I don't think using the newer bags is too Flaggrantly Wrong because really, who is going to notice? Correction to the above paragraph. I guess I was wrong about the bb fire. Now I've been told that one of the participants took a knife to the bags in an act of immaturity, I guess. Disappointing yes, but at least I won't think that the burlap doesn't hold up. I guess it will. Sorry about any confusion.

Why not try to combine bags? Have the Polyester ones inside the burlap ones. When the burlap ones get torn up, they don't really fall apart, although it wouldn't be as cool (and would be expensive) I mean, I am sure that real bullets would penetrate burlap
