I was wondering, how tall is a ww2 issue M1 helmet. I've heard that ww2 M1s were taller than post ww2. Thanks ahead of time.

I'm pretty sure one size fits all, and the same M1 helmets where used throughout korean war, Vietnam war, and WW2, just the liner changed, not the size of the helmet. I'm not sure though, I read that on www.atthefront.com.

There is a slight change in shape between a WW 2 steel pot and the post war Vietnam era steel pot. The silouette is slightly different. The easiest way to quickly tell the two apart is the front seam on the rim of the WW2 era helmet that is absent in the post war helmet. Set the two side by side and look at them directly from the side and you'll notice a very subtle difference in height slope and shape. In my opinion not enough to quibble over but interesting.

I own both a vietnam era M1 and a genuine WWII M1. In fact they are sitting right in front of me next to each other. The WWII has a darker paint, used cork in texturization, used a leather strap to secure the liner, had the seam in the front, and the paint would usually come off the WWII rim because it was stainless steel instead of pot metal. Maybe I am to blind to see the difference height wise or maybe my Vietnam pot was used in WWII. Many of them were repainted and reused.
