buddy of mine just got a bran spankin new marui m1a1 thompson today, and brought it down to the lobby of the museum. We showed it to a guy who used one in the 10th mountain division in ww2! He loved it! He said when they broke out into the Po valley of northern Italy, suddenly there were constantly in villages clearing them from the enemy, It was here that he ditched the carbine, got ahold of a thompson and made considerable use of it.
He was extreamly impressed with the marui thompson and held on to it telling stories for about 20 minutes.
One great one, was when his 4 man patrol got caught in a barrage and ran into the basement of an estate house for cover.
As the shelling subsided, and the dust cleared, they found themselves staring at a two german soldiers taking cover at the other end of the basement!
When the shelling finally stopped, both the German and American troops got up, saluted eachother, and ran out in opposite directions! I would tell more but I would have to type all night! -Gordak

I had this Audio Book about Max Manus, an Norwegian war hero. he had to escape to england because the gestapo was after him, but he couldn't just take a boat over the north sea, but go thru, Sweden, Russia, Turkey, over the Med, to Egypt, down thru Africa over the Atlantic to New York then, stay in Canada were Norwegian fighter pilots trained, then back to New York back over the Al antic to England, then to Scotland for more trainig...
the book was great, when he told about the journeys over the med, where they were first attacked by Italians then French. fighters. and the stories about the Brits in the desert, big city of tent, with lounge Cher's and fireplaces, they had 120 000 Italians POW, and every now and then some German plains tried to bomb them but because of the 100000000 AA gun, they never even got close.
but any, this is a bout the Thompson. then he were traveling in Africa from Egypt so the western part to take the boat over to the stats, they came over some Germans and the Brits gave him a Thompson(probably a 1928) with a 20 round mag, suddenly from some clumps of trees 7-10 German ran out, Max Manus thru him self on the ground, aim at the center of the German squad, and pressed the trigger, 1.5 seconds later when the mag was empty and the smoke cleared all of the Germans were dead or dieing. this was the first time he had ever shot a auto, he had only shot with Luger's and .45's before that. after that he always tried to get a hold of a Thompson, and on pic's he is easy to spot as the only guy with a Thompson while the others had stenguns,
