This is a review of the Cybergun Kalashnikov AKM 60th anneversary edition AEG airsoft gun. It is NOT the CYMA. It is distributed by Cybergun, but the official brand name is Kalashnikov. Purchased from my local sporting goods store, similar product found on ShortyUSA.com. I paid $160 USD for it, + tax.
History of the AKM First things first: THE AKM IS NOT THE AK47. Some people believe the AKM is called the AKM-47, or they are the exact same gun. The AKM is competely different then the AK47. The AKM was developed in 1956 to replace the aging AK47. AKM stand for (in Russian) Automatic rifle Kalashnikov Modernized. The Russian is Avtomat Kalashnikova Modernizirovanniy. It uses the same system as the AK47, but has an improved pistol grip, bumps on the foregirp for better control of the forend, an elevated stock angle for reduced recoil, and a muzzle brake or compensator to improve accuracy and reduce recoil. It also featrues an improved gas system and trigger assembly I believe. It uses the same 7.62x39 bullet as the AK47, and can accept AK47 magazines. Some soldiers still prefer the harder-hitting AKM over the newer, smaller-bullet-firing AK74, which uses the 5.56x45 round.
The Body of the Airsoft Gun It is a full metal body, jet black. Great weight (7-8 lbs). The wood is faux ABS, but looks convincing. Just a small amount of flex in the ABS. Package came with a replacement pistol grip for a total of 2 (black and bakelite), 2 magazines (black and bakelite) holding 550 rds each, battery, charger, and a free scope mount that goes on the AK rail on the side of the gun. Looks better with bakelite grip and bakelite mag. Sights are Great, adjustable flip up rear and adjustable front. One negative though:paint scatches extremely easily. Mine is already battle-worn.
Performance Stock shooting an average of 445 fps with .12g, (on the package), I belive about 410-420 fps with .2g. Good accuracy. At 60 ft a spreat of about 7 inches, factor in wind, bb weight, and hop-up. The hop up is inside the charging handle, slide to adjust. When set, improves accuracy quite a bit. It has proved itsself to me and my friends frequently in battles, easy to point and aim with. I don't use the mount, because I don't have a scope.
More later, maybe with pictures.
*edit* 'My local sporting goods store doesn't mean Scheels, Dick's Sporting Goods, Wal-Mart, or any other low quality store. They sell high end AEGs such as Classic Army, and other guns like KWA, Marushin I believe, and AGM, plus guns distributed by Cybergun.

Stuff I Forgot to Add[/u] Metal butt plate on the gun, same color as the body. It has Kalash Trades on the sides, and is liscensed as an official reproduction of the AKM. The trades are a picture of Mr. Kalashnikov, with the words: 60th Anneversary (of the AK47). The compensator is bright orange, the slanted AKM type, but is relatively small. It also scratches easily. The AKM is stated on the box to be 'The most famous Weapon of the 20th Century'. I have had this gun since winter.
Magazines feed well, sometimes misfeed. In this case, take any standard cleaning rod and put it dowin the feed tube where the bb's come out. Push down, and the mag will unwind. The package also comes with a magazine winding tool, like a butterfly shaped key; and a front sight adjustment tool, a similar shape to the winding tool. The scope mount has a little wobble, but it is the side rail, not the mount. Tiny hex screws could fix this.
Stock is roomy, but with the foam liners for the battery, only my stock 8.4v 1200 MaH battery wil fit. I'm told if you remove these, a larger battery will fit.
ROF is good, but not great. Its high FPS hinders its ROF, but not so much that it cannot be used. It is still enough for me. On a full battery It is decent.
Rear sight is (excuse my vocab) an STG44 type, where there is a notch cut into it, and a slider moves under it to elevate the flip up part. Increments of 1-8, with an N for no elevation. Front sight is screwed in to the base of the front sight, but the sight adjustment tool lets you unscrew it so the point is at a different height, unscrew for up, screw in for down (like an actual screw).
PROS and Their Value[/u] Metal------------5 Price------------10 FPS-------------8 Accuracy--------6 Package Contents--7 Uniqueness------7 Trades---------4
TOTAL:--------47
CONS and Their Value[/u] Scratches-------5 ABS wood-------6 Misfeeding-------4 ROF (for some)--3 Weight (for some)--2
TOTAL:---------20
As you can see, in my mind, the pros outweigh the cons by far, even with cons I factored in for other people who don't like those things.
There you have it. If I can get some pics (which I want to) I will post them, but so far this is my review of the Cybergun Kalashnikov AKM 60th Anneversary Edition AEG Airsoft gun.
Tell me what you think of my 2nd review. I have another, but I was disappointed about the other gun so the review isn't nearly as good as this. If this gets enough interest it may just motivate me to get those pics.

Got the pics! Fake wood, all metal, like you didn't skip the words and go right ahead to the pictures! Here they are: The gun, no mag. Everything in the package, battery is in the stock, charger not shown. Gun with bakelite magazine in place. Black mag not shown. Gun, left side. Close-up of trademarks. Scope mount. Rear sight. Front end and barrel. Flash hider is not cracked/broken, it's an angled compensator. Back end and stock. Open box and package, everything shown. Box cover, closed box. Overall- 5 stars. ;D It has proved itsself to me, it looks good, it's unique, it shoots hard, its accurate, and so on... Tell me what you think of the gun and the review. I encourage feedback. Comments, advice, gripes, etc welcome. NOTE- Scores reflect my mind only.

Seriously, the same gun? Did you upgrade it with real wood, or just paint the ABS and metal? The bayonet looks nice. Do you like its performance and are you happy with it overall?

Yes, it is the same gun with plastic furniture. I stained it with a reddish mahogany stain. This was my very first Airsoft gun so I love it dearly. The bayonet is real steel. The gun performs well and is fairly accurate. Looking back, however, I would have gotten the wood version.

It is also my first gun, so I know how you feel. I didn't know they make a wood version. Are you sure it isn't CYMA wood version you mean?

Yes, the wood version is branded by Cyma. However, both guns are Cyma guns with identical internal and metal external parts. Cybergun rebrands the gun under their name and adds the stamped Kalashnikov trademarks. The Cyma wood version, however, is sold with only one magazine (bakelite color) one pistol grip (brown) and no scope mount. In retrospect, this would have been an acceptable tradeoff to get real wood furniture.

Well, I assumed since the guns were similar, and they are both sold by Cybergun, they could be the same. I still like the gun as much though. Trades, a scope mount, 2 mags, 2 grips, and what not are all good with me.

As far as I know, Cybergun does not sell an AKM with wood furniture.

"Oh, no, that's not what i meant.Cybergun sells CYMA guns, but not the CYMA AKM."
YES, Cybergun does sell a CYMA AKM. They rebrand a Cyma AKM with plastic furniture and sell it under their name. Perhaps you have again said something you didn't mean?

UGHH I'm getting confused about what I said! here is as simple as I can put it:
you said that looking back, you would have gotten the wood version. I said that this exact gun does not have a real wood option. To get the reall wood, you must sacrifice more package contents and trademarks to get the CYMA real wood version, althought internally the guns are exactly the same. Cybergun distribute CYMA guns, including not rebranded guns. The real wood CYMA AKM is not marked Cybergun, Kalashnikov; but it is distributed by Cybergun as far as I know. But I could be wrong.

Cybergun is in no way involved in the distribution, marketing or sales of any guns not specifically rebranded as Cybergun. This includes the Cyma AKM plastic version (CM-036) and the Cyma AKM wood version (CM-036A and CM-048M).
The only AKM which Cybergun has anything to do with is its licensed 60th anniversary AKM, which we both know is a rebranded Cyma CM-036 with some additional accessories thrown in.
