My pic:
Original, unissued M1917 helmet All web gear is original. I replace the M1910 pack, and canteen cover with very good repros since. Repro uniform from AEF Supply. VERY inexpensive, and worth every penny! Weapon is M1917 Enfield.
More recently,I was with a unit that was issued SMLE Enfields. That was very common for American units who were attached to the British for supply purposes.
I haven't done WW1 in a couple years,I do miss it!

August 15th and 16th will be the WW2 event where we have a few WW1 style skirmishes. Check the G3 thread for details.

Here are some pictures of my WW1 kit. I have 3 complete WW1 kits in total but this is the one I will be using for our WW1 airsoft game August 8th and 9th becuase it does not consist of any of my mint unissued WW1 belts, canteen covers, packs or bags. TommyGunner

The WWIAA has members working on making the weapons needed for there events. Don't be in such a hurry, we have all winter to work on our impressions and the weapon is part of it. By the time spring comes around the choices will be awhole lot more then just the Springfield. I think this next year will bring alot more to the table for the Great War. Not only in guns but a centralized site for events.

Not only in guns but a centralized site for events. If a source for high quality Great War era weapons emerges, I think you'd find more than a few GWA men interested in trying a WWI airsoft event with a very heavy living history slant. And if GWA unit sponsored the event, it could possibly be held at the Newville site (VN airsoft events have occurred there on that basis). Jim

Oh boy Oh boy Oh boy! this looks like its gonna be sweet! I guess ill have to break out my doughboy uniform! ;D although it is an original piece. I wonder who is gonna have the guts to make a Chauchat mg for the U.S. teams? maybe make it jam every five seconds like the original! lol

Although, you do however, need a unit to sponsor it. Find a ww1 American unit, and talk to them about it! Thats what happened with the 'nam events.

Authentic eye protection? Maybe repro gas masks? I'm sure the rubber could stop a BB but would you need custom ANZI rated lenses?

I've tried to wear an original US gasmask around before and I don't know how one would fight in the dang thing! The lenses fog up in no time!

The lenses on old gas masks are often brittle and won't stand up consistently to powerful airsoft hits. They are not safe eye protection. They also fog up so bad that you'd swear you were under gas attack. Probably the anzi rates clear and nearly invisible eye pro would be best. I would however highly recommend a mouth guard if you're only going with eye pro. In close trench action I suspect could get real intense. Bolt action only games are a real kick.

Me and my brother went to a modern game awhile back. I still wore my german uniform and my repro gas mask as a facemask. I got hit in the cheek and it almost felt like the pain was amplified for some reason becuase of the rubber. It hurt EXTREMLY bad and I would not recommend it. It's a interesting thought for authenticity reasons but it hurts more the plain skin.

For our purposes, many early war US equipment items can be used for WW1 airsoft. I intend to use my m1928 pack and ammo belt until enough interest is peaked for decently sized events.
