Just a suggestion - the not perfect weather gives you guys a chance to shine. Don't complain and don't bemoan what you can't control is my view. (Okay to think it, but not say it - yeah I guess.) Go to the event and let the modern players do all the bitching. tough weather makes for memorable events. It will probably thin the opposition. Then when they see you guys taking on all comers with bright happy faces they might get infected with optimism for WW2 airsoft. I'm not picking on anyone in particular here. Just in general, all these "I can't make it" and "I really wish I could make it" and "the weather is bad" and anything that doesn't contribute to the success of the event comments - drive me crazy. A simple rule would be to ask if you were organizing an event would you want someone to post what you are getting ready to post? If not, then don't post it. Obviously, I have to be negative here to comment but it is with positive intentions. I hope good weather and a fun event for you folks tomorrow. Get some converts and fight honorably, win or lose.

I had a great time too. My first WWIIAA event as well and I have to say even though we were outnumbered 15-60 we fought hard and defended without hesitation. I'm proud to have had the opportunity to serve in (airsoft) combat with each and every one of you and can't wait for the next event, even more I can't wait to play a WWII game.
Hope to see you all on the field again as soon as possible!

You are a bunch of grumpy looking bastards. That's what I was thinking. In a lot of the posed shots during WWII, the Germans seemed to be a pretty happy lot. Cameras were still novelties and you smiled when someone said "Cheese". But overall, I liked the photographic evidence. You guys look like a Volksgrenadier squad with all those STG-44s. What was the "surprise" that Raimund talked about? Gerry, your brother looks good in his Dot44 outfit. Glad that the first-timers had such a fun first event. The play area looks nice. Pretty sandy, huh? Better clean those barrels.

You are a bunch of grumpy looking bastards. What was the "surprise" that Raimund talked about? Grenades, landmines and "Captured" claymores! Big ED also decided to join us with his .30 cal. As for my AAR. Overview: I believe all the Germans would say they had the most fun during the first game. The Wehrmacht had arrived, a full hour and a half ahead of the NATO forces so, we could position ourselves and dig in. NATO had no idea whatsoever how many guys we had on the field before the game start. Nor did I really know how many guys they had. The AAR 1st Game:The plan was to have the NATO guys “come find us”. However, we decided to try a “rabbit” tactic; which simply was sending three guys out to harass the NATO force as it moved into the field and try to get them to follow! Those three guys were Austin, Myself and Kevin of the 1st FJ. As NATO was in a mob walking toward the field entrance road, we engaged with smoke grenades, full automatic fire and screaming in German to give them the impression that there were a lot more of us than there were. Austin however was using his scoped K98 and scored the first NATO casualty of the game. NATO bought it! We very quickly received a massive amount of return fire. But, the brush was too thick and I kept us out of their range; withdrawing as NATO closed in. The plan was to have as many of them follow us along our lines right flank. It was the most heavily fortified and with the clearest lanes of fire. We also positioned a claymore and a landmine on that side. The plan mostly worked. However a good amount of the NATO forces ran into our front line as well. Which wasn’t entirely part of the plan; but when do plans work 100%? From that point on NATO was taking heavy casualties. A few of them ate our claymore, a whole lot more ate grenades and a whole, whole lot more ate our BB fire. I believe Bob, Gerry and Mike murdered an entire squad of them on the front approach as they attempted a suicide charge on their position at one point. Big ED at another point in time fired a full minute burst of his .30 Cal machine gun upon an unsuspecting lot of NATO forces advancing up our right flank. We sure as hell laid it on them and you could hear and see some of their frustration. Anyway, there simply seemed to be more and more of them to shoot and little be-known to us that there were three of them, to every one of us! So before very long NATO completely surrounded out position; but we continued to hold out for, I’d say a good half hour to forty minutes. When the first game was over… many of the NATO guys seemed to be surprised we had as few guys as we did. They thought we had about double the men we fielded. That made me quite proud of our men. We fought hard and as smart as we were able. We didn’t have walkie-talkies like they did to communicate to different parts of our lines. Just the occasional hand signals and shouts across the lines in German. Once in a blue moon maybe even a runner… but it was hard to spare a single man. Great game guys! I had an awesome time!!!

it was 15 vs 65 The really fun thing about the first battle, was the fact that the enemy had to walk all the way back for respawn, (a 5 minute walk) After the fight I was told that the attackers were pretty freaked out by the steady stream of dead and wounded moving back to the rear, alot of them limping or bleeding The craziest thing, was after the first 15 vs 65 battle, we had another one! this time defending a trench system instead of a hill. This time they came in a concentraited wave, but we still managed to hold for a little bit. Both games I cheated and took an m240 gulf with all its rails removed, 8000 round mag with an 11 volt li-poly, it was a continous hose, I think it had alot to do with keeping them back for a bit. The 44s while good, just can't suppres long enough. After that we split the teams and found a large number of the modern players joining the German side. Some even broke out whatever german equipment they had, one kid had an an original m42 helmet shell! Others game to me and mentioned how far along they were in gettign their kits together, so I would say the event was a success in getting the word of WW2 airsoft out. It was also the Largest game ever held at that field. Which made the owners very happy and interested in More WW2 theme battles. -Gordak

I'm Kevin, the FJ in the new-looking blue helmet and the really faded smock. Next to Sam in the back row of the lineup pictures.

Lots of fun! My favorite was when one of the NATO players said "MAN! I was over here registering and guys were coming down welted, Bleeding sweating and limping...... There was only how many of you on that hill???"During the first game I was able to share a mosquito infested foxhole with Big ed and his .30 cal after that one minute burst that seem to clear the woods of NATO players I thought to myself I am glad to be playing with him than facing him as usual! Ray Don't forget the Panzerfaust! FFFLLLUMPPPPP>>>> After organizing and running the Rhineland event it was great to have some straight up trigger time! We had such a great concealed position at the very front of our lines and as NATO would assault our frontlines we would let them pass not even knowing we were there and we would open up on 'em! Between Ed and I we got quite a few eliminations even after our guns jammed up... Ed went to his truck to get a jamming rod and came back saying "I kid you not, there is another 45 guys registering down there right now and I am being conservative on that number!" The NATO forces had some good players and overwhelming numbers I couldn't help but think that this was what it was like on the Russian front! I resent that remark about Grumpy Basterds look at this boyish smile!

I always Smile, and I agree that germans smiled, guy sajer even wrote about it, : no matter how bad the times were, everyone smiled when the newsreel cameras were around. Ray just demanded we frown, and as you see in the rest of the pictures, Im trying hard not to smile -Gordak

Nice After Action Reports guys. Looks like the field was quite a bit of fun to play on. Sounds like you guys did real well considering the odds.
Ray and Austin.... give up your K98's for STG's? Blasphemy!!
Lots of STG's for sure.

I however defer some of the blame to our former unit CO Burt. He is the one who started the whole no smile thing. Honestly guys, do you all think I know what I’m doing? I just wing it.

Many pictures of German troops show them smiling and generally being goof balls. The whole "I'm a frowning bad ass" thing is sort of a pet peeve of mine. Lächeln!
