The problem there is the lack of 20 round style mags for thompsons and I think the ones that do exist are high caps

Brownian took some of the inexpensive longer low cap mags and shortened them to the appropriate length. I copied his process and did up six of them which are a nice project for Thompson users. They not only look better but facilitate using the thompson when in the prone or low crawling. The reduced capacity also adds to authentic gameplay.

That looks awesome! Your kits look great!
Who owns the jeep? Where are you guys located? What kind of camera was used to take the pictures? I dig the black & white and the sepia tone pics. Is that the WPG Field phone?

We are located in Manila, The Philippines, with some members scattered all over Luzon. (the guy with the jeep brought it in from Pampanga province 3 hours away). The photos were mostly taken with modern digital cameras but tweaked to look old in photoshop. field phone is a non functioning original.

I managed to convince my family that I needed a new jacket for the upcoming Alaskan winter, so now I finally have my M41. ATF's new run has really exceeded my expectations - the color is now matched with a swatch of original Olive Drab No. 2 5oz cotton poplin recovered from the U.S. Army Quartermaster Museum! I'm super happy with it. Aside from proper USMC socks and an undershirt (still need socks from Mickey Black Socks and an undershirt from ELMC), my basic uniform is complete. Aside from that, I just wore my leggings under my trousers and wore my helmet unbuckled at the advice of some fellow Iwo Jima historians. Plus my Garand now has lockbar sights, a single slot gas cylinder screw, and milled trigger guard.

Nice! You really look the part. Is that a real steel Garand?

Yeah, it's a real Garand. I sold off the ACM M1918A2 I had - it just wasn't right for me or my local airsoft environment. I'm on the fence when it comes to whether or not I actually want to do WWII for airsoft, now that I have my real Garand. If anything, I might swing for an ICS M3 Grease Gun, if only because I'll never be able to own a real one. I won't be able to use it with my USMC impressions, but at this point, I don't think that matters - there doesn't seem to be any PTO airsoft events anyways.

Though I may never get a chance to use it for our airsoft events (Eastern Front), Here is my GI "Normandy Bocage" kit so far: Original front seam fixed bale M1 with original liner (repainted by me):

GI kit looks good. You could go to 1 event as American. Tom and I would love to see another one at the events!

I have been pondering suggesting that we possibly make one of our events a "western front" theme. I know Troy has a US kit and some loaner items, and I believe you mentioned having loaner items. Between that and partisan kits, it may be possible. It may help recruit people who are more interested in US impressions.

Finally got around to posting an update on my web gear, working on a D-Day / Normandy para kit. Also, was it uncommon to see rigger pouches used later into the war?

No, rigger pouches were almost entirely replaced with standard gear for Market Garden and later. Looks good, I assume you are going for a pathfinder look? Also, which division are you portraying? SMG rigger pouches AFAIK were an 82nd thing-the 101st used other methods.

The way I heard it explained, since Market Garden happened so suddenly, they didn't have the months of prep time to re-equip everyone with fresh custom rigger equipment. So they quickly gave everyone the standard pouches. Same goes for Battle of the Bulge and on. Gear looks good! I like the grime.

The 82nd and later 18th Airborne were very dilligent about camo smudging or overspraying their uniforms and gear. It wasnt 100% of course but quite common.
The Khaki items were not considered effective camo for western europe which actually is quite true. Your web gear looks good.

Thanks for the feedback, also how far into the war did the felt shoulder pads usually last?

I have seen photos of them in use during Market Garden, but I wouldn't use them any later than that. Besides, during the Bulge and later, most troops carried very little equipment with them anyway, so they wouldn't be needed.

My updated Normandy kit... I would still like to get a thompson ammo bag, some dummy grenades, an E tool and a few other little details but that will be on the back burner until spring/summer when I'd be able to use the kit at an event. Sorry for the poor quality pictures...

Looks good! Good on you getting M43s. Too many airborne guys don't get them with the excuse "some guys hung on to their M42s." That is true, but took place on a much smaller scale than it does for our games. IMO if you want to portray airborne units, you should get a set of M43s when financially possible in order to claim "having a complete kit." (Before someone tells me to practice what I preach, I have a set in the mail as we speak.)

Aside from the new sling (Turner Sadlery - I recommend them very highly.) nothing new to show, but I got a new camera, so I took some new shots because I could use the practice. Faffed about in photoshop a bit till I liked the results.

Boonie Fox. As the USMC was a branch of the Navy, wouldn't they be issued the USN version of the M41 field jacket? (No epaulets and typically a darker shade?). I ask not knowing the answer but have always wondered.

Actually, the earliest contracts of Navy's copy of the M1941 Field Jacket, officially the "Jackets, Field, N4", date to LATE 1944. With such late contract dates, they didn't arrive in large enough quantities to replace the M1941 Field Jackets that were already being issued. A handful of Marines and Sailors can be seen on Iwo and Okinawa wearing them if you look hard enough, but the majority still wear M1941 field jackets. Marines can be seen wearing "Army" M1941 jackets in Australia, after the battle of Guadalcanal in early 1943. As far as I've read, they became standard issue during boot camp the same year. They were procured from the Army, seeing as the Marine Corps had no field jacket design of its own - just it's pre-war forest green service / dress uniform. This can be confirmed by examining surviving examples of Veteran worn field jackets - all the ones I've seen have been standard Army contract jackets. Post war the Marines adopted the M1943 uniform, so the need to supply N4s to USMC personnel subsided. The easiest way I can distinguish between Navy N4s and M1941's in blurry and black and white photos is the presence, or lack of epaulletes, sleeve adjustment tabs, and waist adjustment tabs. N4's, being simplified, lack these features.

Great picture with excellent support of your conclusion. That would appear to be Iwo Jima based on what little I can make out of the map and the volcanic ash around them?

Nothing in terms of actual uniforms (I'll get that soon), however I ordered a US WW2 Webbing set, which I'll probably use as late-war Paratrooper gear. I also have a helmet. This webbing will arrive on Friday, I'm so excited

Looks good, but paratroopers didn't use the M1928 haversack. They used the M1936 musette bag and suspenders. I'd keep the haversack though in case you want to do infantry later.

I know, I'll probably actually do Infantry. Either the 1st or 3rd. My fav is the 3rd. The First aid pouch and the Canteen are misplaced, when it arrives on Friday, I'll post a pic of it in more detail. I'm getting an original M43 shovel and other bits next week. So far so good.
