Ow, my heart! That's an amazing set-up! You may want to ditch the leggings though, becuase I was udner the impression that they weren't well liked beyond the landings. I love the BAR, each kit has it's own special feature that seperates it from the rest. excellent work!

Thanks for the accolades guys. Lots of time has gone into this and its only half done. The impression will run from early bannana wars to Korea. Next up is WWI. I hope to finish the WW1 portion someday (AEF Supply........) anyways. To answer some questions:
Russian-The BAR is the real thing (semiauto)-I use it for competitive target shooting at the local gun club. The thing is a cannon. Shoots entirely different from an M1 Garand. Overall weight for the BAR loadout (standard marching pack for landing at Iwo Jima/Okinawa) is 75 pounds.
Spitfire 740. You are right the leggings were often ditched upon hitting beach. The BAR shot is at the beach so I kept them. The Wake island (tommy helmet with 1928 thompson) guys wore them to keep from getting scraped on the rocks. The middle 3 are various patrol/recon shots with different setups from 43-44. Once occupying and on patrol the leggings were worn depending on the environment-usually jungle and swamp they would wear them, sandy/rocky no they wouldn't. If a guy had lost his leggings and had to do jungle duty the HBTs were tucked into sock tops to keep bugs and slimy bits out. I had meant to illustrate some of this in the pics but simply forgot while putting everything together.
Now all I gotta do is get a springfield up and running and I can do a 'canal shot.

The reason leggings were ditched was becuase it increased jungle rot in the humidity. Those impressions are GRADE A, you gotta have a SH#TLOAD of money for that too.. just simply something i dont have very nice though, very nice -Cary

I think that they kept the leggings except they were generaly hidden under the trousers. Look at period photos of marines and you will generally see the leggings on the boots. Great impressions man!! Keep up the good work!

Keep up the good work! Click There would be times they would have them on, mostly on the beaches to keep water outa their boots, Though once in the jungle they would take them off, because they increase jungle rot, and other foot diseases in the wet hot environment, also all islands were sandy, and the sand would chaffe very bad lol. I could show you a picture from, i believe is Okinawa where they are just wearing their boondockers i157.photobucket.com/albums/t50/airbornenoncom502/ww2.jpg-Cary

Cary, Look closer. The marine on the left you can clearly see the leggings and the one on the right you can see the strap that goes under the boot showing that he is still wearing his leggings.

Troy,
It's refreshing to see the detailed variations. I love all the various field set ups. Get a bamboo background and get those in the new and improved stich nazi thread. I especially like the correct way you detailed out the haversack with the tube roll underneath. By the book the E-tool would be under the meat can but I'm sure in practice this wasn't always the case. In garrison the long tube roll was the prescribed mounting for the shelter half and bed roll. Terribly uncomfortable in the field, hence seldom done that way once troops left garrison. I like the yellow grenade (nice touch for early war) and the assortment of pouches and field gear.
My father (US Army 1938 to 1968) showed me the correct way to put the haversack together and you're pretty much spot on. He had a cool way to cinammon roll the straps but that was strictly garrison IG crap. Great job!

Alright not even close to done or as nice as Troy and some of you other Jarheads but. I have a set of Frogskins, helmet cover, ww2 khaki belt, OD late war suspenders, khaki canteen cover and a canteen. Need lots of stuff but hey it's a start. I also have a set of HBT's from ATF(The closeouts) for a 1stID impression. Yes I need a shave...though my wife thinks I am silly to shave before an event...women There are many things I need to complete this impression but I figured a good repro uniform was a good start.

Thanks again guys. I would make a book but I must bow to Frogskins and Dungarees and Sailors in Forest Green. If you want some truly great impressions for USMC/USN detatched then grab those books, or check them out from their local library. Some of the bits in those collections are really impressive. I have begun working on recreating/replicating some of the rarer pieces. Doesn't mean that I won't post more pics. This spring I am planning a few beach assaults!!!! Found a local guy with a DUKW in good condition.
Hey 5th ranger. Is that an airsoft springfield in the last shot or a real steel? If it is an airsoft when how where? I am beginning on a scratchbuilt and would love a little inspiration and recommendations on getting it looking that good.
