I hope everyone had a good time at Prelude. I'm really whipped today after cleaning everything up but I do enjoy hosting. A big thank you to all who showed. In random order, the 3rd Panzergrenadiers, the Minnesoviets, the MinneGermans, the 198th Rifle Division, the 6th SS, 2nd Rangers, 11th Panzer, and to people like Rekkon and Sirveillance who make the longest hauls. We can't hold events without people and Mike and I appreciate when you commit to our events.
The event had some ups and downs. The usual German MG problems reared their head again and the Kubel had a fuel leak which put it out of action. SirVeillance bumped his knee and Adam ran into a nest of hornets (Not Germans...HORNETS) but I think the fighting was a lot of fun. The terrain didn't favor Natasha but the anti-tank guys had a lot of fun in this one. I'm sure Natasha will repay in full at events in Big Lake and Neillsville. My brother took some pics and our combat photographer, Cpl. Mills was in attendance so those pics are coming. Mike and I will probably bring a truck to Neillsville and we'll try to get a couple of the MG's ready too. Looking forward to that Fall event. Once again, thanks to all for the good sportmanship and a really fun day. The best part of a MOA event are the people.
Final note, found some Russian sashes in the Cabin that I think belong to the Minnesoviets and we'll bring them to Neillsville so the owners can claim them.

Gordak - that would be great if you guys could make the trip sometime. PM me if there is anything you'd need. I'll echo my brothers comments. Thanks to all who braved the heat and humidity. One of these days we'll catch a break and get some really nice picnic weather. There were 22-stalwart souls who fought on this day. Not bad. The fighting got off to a rocky start what with the break downs and such and so we had to improvise a bit "on the fly" with victory conditions for the event, specifically time limits on the scenarios but hopefully that was done in agreement with the parties involved. I really liked the first set of scenarios. We kinda copied the NY-groups idea of a continuously advancing objective. With the Germans not being able to respawn on that one it was just a matter of time and the challenge for the Soviets was to limit their losses. That was a close one and the very first action of that scenario my personal fave as I got to eavesdrop on Troy and Gryphon's command style as they directed the probes that eventually took the 1st of the 3 positions. The second scenario (one could argue 4th since the first scenario was three separate actions.) was more traditional and I didn't see the decisive push that took the objective as I was busy respawning but was very glad to see that I didn't have to assault the sandbag position again. The final battle was a simple 30-minute race for the flag (time clock) and there were some crossed wires on that one too but who cares. It was just improvised for 30-minutes of trigger time till 5pm and we don't see that one as counting. Still when I called that one due to time it was interesting to see 2-Germans and Belka stand up all within 15-feet of one another with the objective between them. Steve would have been unable to even fire. Our rules set seems to be getting more accepted and I'll incorporate the helmet rules into the next event. Otherwise I think they are working well. Maybe someday, we'll have the same set event-to-event. Here are the few shots I took. Too busy to get much. My liability waiver method. Saves paper. Natasha in German get-up. I think at Neillsville we just buck up and deal with her as Russian all day. Sandbags and lunch. SirV debuts his English airborne impression. He was a Soviet adviser. A new look for Gryphon and Morkova too. Avatar material - maybe? Belka looks fresh as can be. The advantages of motorized transport in 87-degree/85% humidity heat.

Otto and Franz, Thank you again for a great event! I had a blast commanding the Germans! Full AAR to come tonight, but first: Our First event with multiple MP44s shooting full auto. I think 3/4 clocked in at 395 or so, the 4th was stock. We are starting to see the beginnings of a major arms race in the MOA... I can't wait to see what gryphon whips up in response.

....The usual German MG problems reared their head again... I don't like the sound of that. You talking about the MG-42?

My AAR: First Scenario First Phase: Split the Germans into 3 elements: Otto and David on the Pak, Ulrich his squad on the right side of the road, Franz, Wolfgang, Peiper and Adam on the Left.
I stayed near the tent to float between the squads and keep an eye out for Natasha, Otto positioned the PAK in the rear up the road.
First contact was made on the left flank and Wolfgang was eliminated. Sporadic contact on the right flank while Natasha was creeping up the road. Once Natasha was closing on the tent, I opened fire on the turret gunner and retreated. Shortly thereafter I was wounded by fire from Boris in the driver's seat. I managed to crawl back to the corner of the road near the tent where I waited for a medic. After a few minutes, Natasha moved a bit up the road and Franz missed what should have been a sure-kill due to a panzerfaust malfunction. I yelled for all the Germans to fall back to the tent before Boris finished me off with another burst from the driver's seat. Our squad held out to almost the last man before the Soviets captured our command tent.
First Scenario, Second Phase: In defending the Sandbags I closed the defensive perimeter more tightly than the first scenario. Franz took Peiper and Adam on the right flank, Ulrich's squad went left and Wolfgang, Otto and Dave were the last ditch security element near the sandbags. Highlights were standing on the ridge on the left side of the bunker and laying suppressing fire on the Soviet attackers trying to enter the woods from the road. From my vantage point I was able to assist Ulrich's squad who were scattered in a loose semi-circle with Ulrich up against the embankment along the road. From this spot I got to witness Ulrich's steely resolve as he engaged the infantry behind Natasha first before moving into position for a pointblank kill with the panzerfaust. After this threat was neutralized I moved to support the right flank after I learned Adam and Peiper had been killed. During my trip to the right side we almost got rolled by a flanking attack to our rear. I returned to the right side to find 3-4 sneaky Soviets moving up to where Franz was positioned. I eliminated them shortly before Natasha moved up the road again. I began to lay a heavy suppressing fire on Natasha and the infantry advancing up the road. After David was killed on the PAK, I raced to try to finish the job, my shot missed and I was shortly eliminated by a well placed mortar round. The Soviet Capture of the Sandbag position occurred shortly thereafter.
First Scenario, Third Phase: We were able to successfully defend the road crossing. Ulrich's squad held down the left while Franz, Wolfgang, Adam and Peiper held the right. Once again I roamed the left and right flanks to provide assistance when needed. Our defense was quite fierce and we only took 3 casualties.
Second Scenario: In this scenario I sent Franz, David and Peiper with Boris in the BA-64 to attack from the West while the rest of our squad formed one element and attacked from the North and West. I was able to get to the ridgeline without meeting any resistance and move South to the road. From there I began to lay fire onto the bunker. I was wounded and killed here by one of the defenders in the bunker. While I was back at the respawn, I saw Natasha roll up and learned about the mines on the road that I plainly missed. When I returned to the battle I followed Otto up the underbrush along the right side of the road. From this angle of approach we were able to move up to the objective under total cover. I began laying fire on the bunker and moved out onto the road to get a clearer angle. I was surprised to see that the Soviets had clearly strengthened the overhead cover with cammo netting. I was wounded and sat waiting on the side of the road for a medic. Before not too long, Natasha came rumbling back up the road. Boris stopped behind me and jumped out to heal me. Now back in the fight I advanced up the left side of the road ahead of Natasha. The PAK was neutralized and we were able to capture the Sandbags.
Third Scenario: We all made a headlong rush towards the crossroads. I was making a flanking maneuver along the Southeast side when I was shot by Tom and Sir V. I then got to witness both of them faceplant running over the berm down to the road. Sir V, I'm even more sorry about laughing once I saw that baseball sized welt on your knee after the game.
I think this one ended in a stalemate, but the action was furious.
Thanks again to Otto and Franz for putting on a great event. Thank you to all who attended, once again a game with even better sportsmanship. And a hearty salute to all of my Heer and SS Kameraden! Commanding you all was an honor and a pleasure!
