After looking around ebay for a while, it seems that one can buy a surplus M1 stock for around $30. Would it be possible to take one and modify it to house an M14 V7 gearbox?

i did it. i used a paddle bit, a lot of files, and a dremel. it took a while but wasnt that hard i didnt encounter any major problems. sorry for the late response.

You were able to fit the motor in wrist of the stock without making it too thin?

You are far more skilled than I as I have had precious little luck with several attempts. I finally gave up on the effort but delighted to hear someone has managed to make it work.

Assuming you have a digital camera or phone Go to photobucket.com or any of a number of free hosting sites and follow their directions. Pretty straight forward really. I'd love to see pictures of your modified Garand stock as would alot of other folks I suspect. There is some variation in the overall shape and thickness of the various Garand stocks especially by wood type and if they are war or post war stocks but I sure didn't have any luck making the adaptation work to where it came out decently or didn't take a year to do.

it is a war time stock. it almost killed me to gut it out but it was only 15 bucks and it was in bad condition. still has chips and cracks but totally servicable on my airsoft. photo bucket isnt letting me register for some reason. are there any other options?

Highlight the HTML codes that should drop down below the pictures you select and copy the code and simply insert it in your post along with anything you want to write. The pictures should show up. Be sure you have sizes selected that aren't going to post a huge file so select a size appropriate for posting.

oh, and my charging handle broke when i was trying to drill it out to fit a rod. also, the charging handle was lower than it should be to line up with the gas assembly. how did Gman do his where it rode in there smoothly?

I haven't had problems with it not lining up. You could always just not have it go into the gas assembly and just stop short. Looks fantastic by the way. Its great that you modified the receiver makes it look much more M1 like.

Oh I think I understand what your saying. The charging handle won't fit past the sling ferrule part? You could try cutting it and sticking a smaller tube into it.

You have to grind out the ferrle hole and a section of the inner wall of the larger handguard. It's a pain but it works. The rifle looks great. Awesome job!
