There is something about being able to manipulate the bolt on a gun that makes it a whole lot more enjoyable. I knew from the moment I saw this thing that I had to find a way to make the bolt work. Like Guinness I removed the fake plate on the back of the receiver and modified (cut away) part of the fake bolt so that the bolt handle could travel all the way up to the safe position. The original idea was to attach a spring on the inside of the fake bolt that would cause the bolt to slam forward into the closed position after being moved off safe. It can be done, but I was satisified with just having the working bolt. The space is narrow so either a very skinny spring or a piece of bungi cord (or rubber band?) can be used to pull the bolt forward into the the fire position. You can place it underneath so that it cant be seen. I replaced to two weak screws that were holding the bolt handle to the fake bolt and put in new steel hex screws with washers which make the bolt handle rock solid. The selector switch has been removed and the plastic "fake baked". The gun has been worn to a more "Spring of '45" look. Attached to the side of the mechbox (using the top motor screw) is a narrow piece of galvanized steel (stove pipe) which covers the battery and hides the brass colored cylinder. Bolt in the safe position: Bolt in the closed position: Other side: Fake bolt modification:

Great work! I hope to be able to do all these cosmetic mods you guys have done once mine arrives. However....the MP40 is an open bolt weapon, when ready to fire the bolt is in the middle of the channel, and if you dry fire it will slam forward with a metalic 'clack'. Again, cool mod...You'd see them carry the MP40 a lot with the bolt locked into the upper position.

Yes, I hope it arrives Indy. On that email list from Gunner I did hear one guy complain yesterday that the M4 he finally got appears to have been a used model with the wear covered up with black paint.
Who knows... and yet I got mine just fine.
Yes, I didnt think about that but that is closed bolt instead of fire.
Good luck man, Dave

Nice work dave! What I did thats a bit different is I bent the excess sheet metal on the opposite site from the charging handle back and folded it back. That makes it easier to get the bolt into the safe position. As well I moved the front strap loop to the right side where it should be. Also I had noticed that the reciever was getting a bit loose and moving back and forth, so I flared the ends of the receiver out just a bit, it is now very snug when the receiver is reseated and locked. And the last touch was to use gun metal paint to cover the mechbox so it doesn't stick out like a sore thumb As soon as my upgrade parts arrive from WGC, that selector switch is coming off. Slainte! -G

I'm loving these MP40's.
I'm in the process of waiting for some new parts for my MP40, then I'll 'Bake it' & also carryout the bolt mod.
I bought my MP40 from WGC with the RoF Selector already removed
Will take some pics once I put everything back together.

I'm finished tinkering with this gun for now. Besides the cosmetic changes it got:
Systema M120 spring Deepfire metal bushings Systema metal piston head Systema metal cylinder head Replaced mechbox screws (Ace Hardware!)
Squeezing off a single shot at the Coke can chrono, its easily tears through both sides of the can but gets imbedded (does not penatrate) the center bottom. That would put it somewhere between 350-380fps.
The 120 spring with the 8v battery has slowed the ROF down to a more realistic rate. Its also noticably louder which I love.
If I do anything more to it, I would replace the plastic piston and air nozzle. The plastic looks low grade to me.
There are so many bloody types of air nozzles out there that Im not sure which one is a perfect match. If anyone knows.. please let me know.
Thanks, Dave

I think it would benefit from a new air nozzle. I could open up some of my other AEGs and try to compare it but the truth is Ive had this mechbox open about a dozen times in the last week tweeking it and Im kinda burned out on that right now. It works fine, so Id rather spend some time shreading coke cans with it!

Which type of nozzle does the MP40 use?

davem: Nice to hear that the MP40 in fact is compatible with high-grade parts! Makes me feel a whole less worried about it breaking and not being able to find right (and good) parts for it.

the M16 nozzles I have are .5mm shorter but might work. I'm in process of the ole' fake-bake right now and gearbox work is slated for later tonight when I'm out of sunlight. Issue: My mp40 from airsplat didn't come with a metal muzzle but just the orange plastic one. Anybody know of a place to get a metal replacement or should I just plan on painting over the orange one?
**update**
the SRC polycarb M16 nozzle fits and fires beautifully.

I wouldn't recommend removing the fake plate at the end of the bolt slide if you aren't sure how hard it is welded there. After several tormenting hours I succeeded in bending it off.

Loosen the front barrel lug bolt and rotate it around and then tightenb it back up. Just like on the real gun. The Win sim hop up is an aftermarket hopup that is outstanding.

I tried loosening the barrel lug bolt, but it doesn't seem to back-off enough for me to rotate the strap loop. The piece that runs along the bottom of the barrel prevents it. How do I proceed ?

Any special instructions for removing the muzzle nut? It's plastic and may get stripped as it looks glued as well.

Yeah, I have no clue how to get it off aside from continuing on mutilating it. However, I feel like I'm on a mission now. If all else fails, the cure all for removing plastic is fire. Mike **Ok...I got it off without the use of fire. The orange muzzle nut of my MP40 was merely glued in place and not threaded to match the metal threads. All in all I'm glad I did it because I wanted the accessibility into the gun. Now I just have to order a metal muzzle nut.

I get most of my spare parts here: www.ioinc.us/This used to be Interordinance, but from what I gather it's under new ownership. Do a web search tho' because you may find it cheaper. Mike

Of course...real parts can fit on it. Some of them that is. If no one else has done so that can back up my claim then I will let you know for sure once I get them in. I'm also ordering parts to make an MP41 out of my MP40.
