Well looks like we have our first real G43 project started ! (AFAIK) In another instance of 'reverse Lend-Lease' I have requested permission to share this from our brothers-in-arms site, WW2Airsoft UKHere is Jay's short description of the work thus far- "hi finally received my g43 stock, mag and buttplate so im now under way. decided to use an agm m14 gearbox which is a very tight fit, quite a bit of dremmeling to get it in there but it just fits. trigger guard, barrel band and mag catch on the way, will keep updating as I go" "it has cost a bit but not too bad. I got the stock for £100 and the mag cost £30. the other bits mount up to about £75 but thats most of the bits I need as I will make all the rest. that is the m14 barrel which I will be using, and the m14 mag is too long and did'nt look right so I have the g43 mag and will put some internals in it. feel free to post on the forum no problem mate" We'll keep an eye on on this as I'm sure many of us are well interested and will be cheering him on to complete! Here is the source of the stock apparently: www.berghof1944.com/index_ger.htmlSlainte!

That is amazing, the work of people these days is unbelievable, with proper funding and support i could see some of these ideas being mass produced, its a beautiful looking gun, i hope all works out. Kyle

Very cool! He should try shortening the M14 magazine.

And I still think it would be easier to use a surplus K98 stock, might not be exact but its like a 1/4 of the price at least.

WOW. That gun is very gorgeous. Eventhough the project seems in its early stages, the finish work is really starting to show. Is that a real steel mag too? Last time I heard those are quite rare and expensive.

I think he meant that he should obtain some m14 style magazines, and shorten them to use on his g43.

Yeah, I meant I think it would be a lot easier to just shorten M14 magazines - and economical. I dont like highcaps, and spending $60 on a real steel mag to convert over to airsoft seems silly.

Ahh based on the "the" used, I assumed you thought he was already using a M14 mag in the picture.

Repro G43 mags where like $69 , and short 10 round M14 real steel mags made in China for their Norinco M14s are like around $9.

I hope once he gets the G43 shaped and dremelled and insures that everything fits and works right he removes it, spends some money CnCing the stock so he would then be able to fairly easily mass produce the gun. It would beat the heck out of attempting to hand drill out each one individually. His costs for set up would be fairly healthy and each stock would probably be 250.00 or so but they could be pre-done to accomodate the base weaponry.
With that he'd probably be able to sell an all wood, G-43 for somewhere around $1,000.00 which I believe would sell. He'd recoup his investment and probably start making some money after about a dozen or so sales. This is probably not in his plans and even less so as he struggles with the challenges of the project but honestly he's doing all the hard work on this prototype so he should receive a return on his effort over and above a single custom hand built rifle.
I really hope he decides to pursue this as a commercial venture as seeing some G-43s on the airsoft battlefield would be awesome. The clone base M-14s are awsome base rifles and now shoot 330FPS and higher right out of the box.
They have been a reliable gearbox. I'd personally like to see him stick with correct shaped magazines if he can pull it off. Perhaps shorten the inner M-14 mags and then mold them into a shape that looked right.

thanks for the comments guys and thanks to guinness for pointing me over here, great site. the g43 is in its very early stages but hoping to get it done for xmas providing i can get on a mill at work to get the bits done. as for the mag i am a sucker for realism so the only way to go for me was a real steel mag with g&g sr25 50 rnd mag internals in it. the real problem at the moment is getting the trigger linkage in there as there is not much room under the motor, but i have a couple of ideas floating about so should get it sorted. i have been flicking through the site and there is some great stuff going on, keep it up chaps. i see slick's sten mk3 has made it over aswell, just shows ya that it dont have to break the bank to build a custom gun. will keep you updated. cheers jay

The G43 has been on this list for some time and it's great to see someone tackling it. Good luck and keep us posted. Christmas is a great deadline. I hope you're able to get it done by then.

Wowzers Schnauzers! Almost speechless I am and you are still in the early stages!!! Thanks a metric tonne for giving us such clear images to see! I believe those that choose to follow your lead should definitely be able to use these as their guide! Much appreciated sir! (Cheers for noticing I lightened up your orig. pics too- these next ones are great!) A couple of questions along the way if you don't mind: I assume thats a chunk of billet alum that you are using as the forward receiver yes? what are you using to fabricate and shape it if I may ask- What is the quality of that chunk of "Al-you-min-ium" as you Brits say and how much did that piece run? Are you using that same source for the other G43 bits? ...This is SO getting stickied! ;D

guinness....yes mate it is aluminium and i got it from work (im a mechanical engineer). most of the work on the receiver so far i have done on a mill, i still have to machine the slot for the sight assembly when i can find out how wide it is. as you requested on our u.k forum i will gladly give detailed pics of each piece as it is finished, and answer any questions anyone has, the more people building these custom guns, the more realistic our 'battlefields' will be. i am hoping to get it done for xmas as i have got a few plans together for my next 'dream' gun, the FG42.
cheers jay

They have an M1 AEG Carbine on that site too! The magazine looks a tad to big, but this can give you the ideas on how to make one.

www13.ocn.ne.jp/~quero/que/hobby/sabaibalu/diy/diy_/2/diy_2.htmlThey also have a custom BAR, M1928, M14, M3 "Grease Gun" and an M1 Garand. They don't give you really any pictures with the M1 or BAR, but the M1 doesn't have the bottom loading mechanism. Also, it isn't based off of an M14. I think it is like a prop Garand, with gearbox in it. This guy molds all of his rifles out of aluminum. It's pretty cool. If you need help with the translation, PM me. I am pretty decent at Japanese.
