Got bored looking at my old AK so I had a tinker with it, still gotta make up the bipod, front sight and top cover which will house the battery. I`m hoping to use a C mag with some corrugations added around the outside. Waiting for the Mrs to use up her bottle of Ajax so I can nick the cap for a flash hider

Beware of that great big knot in your stock blank - it's in a narrow area of the stock and (if it runs all or most of the way through the stock) is really likely to shrink and crack over time, which will cause a serious weak point. If you have another piece of wood, you might want to think about replacing it before you go too much further on this project. Otherwise, looks cool so far!

Cheers Bud, didn`t think about the knot unfortunately, my wood supply is limited so I`ll have to go with this one for now. Its just a mess around project as I don`t use the AK anymore, and isn`t going to be very accurate

If, sometime in the future, that knot does shrink to the point that you can pop it completely out, you can try cleaning the void with acetone and filling it with fiber-reinforced automobile body putty. Good luck!

Thats really great. Im so happy people are starting to get creative with building guns. This post and several others that have popped up have proven that damn near everyone is capable of building these things and all we have to do to make them is think outside of the box and use our imagination.

I am really curious to see how the mag works out. Also, where exactly does the battery fit? Thanks!

Very nice. Would you mind if a friend of mine and I borrowed your idea for his AK SVD? He's been looking for a way to convert it into a MG34 for a little while now.

Thanks chaps Simple and straightforward conversion, minimum of mechanical fuss, convincing look I think you hit the nail on the head Gryphon, took about 3-4 hours in total, worst part was carving the stock ;D

It does look good enough for pictures. Nice and light too I'll bet. What it needs now is a front sight. That would be super easy to add. Take a flat piece of anything and bolt it to the top screw on the bipod. That would really add. Try it.
Also - is that a hi-cap and what is the ammo capacity of that lollipops . Rate of fire, FPS etc. Lets hear about the performance please.

You cold probably modify that magazine to only have one side, and make it look a little more like a 34 drum. All good work though!

Hey Slick, You wouldn't mind if I copied your idea would you? It looks fantastic! Help yourself bud The ak base was only a UTG so its only firing about 280 fps. ROF is normal AK which is ok as I didn`t want it sounding like a 42. You could make up a 42 front end and bung in a 9.6v battery. I`ll try it this weekend with a normal AK mag, if it feels ok I`ll pop in a better box, unfortunately the drum mag is still on order over here in the UK...it holds 2500 rounds I think. Someone over on the UK WW2 forum did mention about chopping one of the drums off to make it more realistic...I`ll wait til the mag arrives and have a think about it. Gonna make a front site up as mentioned, got lazy and missed it out originally ;D
