Nice work!
Once upon a time I stated that I could locate these stocks. At the last gun show in Springfield I could not find one after six hours of searching and speaking with vendors.

Thanks Jay. That certainly is an option. The last time I tried to order from Poland however it wasn't a great experience. There would obviously need some hacking out of the interior space but someone with moderate wood working skills could probably handle it.

You certainly have some skills. It looks real nice. If you were starting from scratch, I'd say go with the wood stock, but you've already done so much work. See, - all the airsoft gun production in China hasn't stopped yet.

See, - all the airsoft gun production in China hasn't stopped yet. No way am I going back. Remember my workshop is the tiny masterbath. It kills me that I have no power tools (except a Dremel and drill), not even a sander. What was done was in one day. I need to sand the stock down again and put the final putty fill to smooth it out. This will challange my painting skils for paintng faux wood. Using real wood might work for some but I have limits and I wanted to use this opportunity to show others how to work with the PVC sheet. I hope by next weekend It's done. I will finally get some time off in week or so to finish up some other projects EJ.

So what you refer to as Sintra board is 5mm PVC sheeting? Clever the way you cut layers with the middle layers hollowed out for a battery. I suppose you could use ABS sheeting as well. How well did the bondo and putty stick to the PVC?
The gun looks very impressive and I'm guessing will look fabtastic when you are all finished.

It depends on the ABS you use because a product like Kydex would never hold paint or filler. Read this site for more about Sintra (which is a brand name for High Density foam). It really is an excellent modelling medium. Paints and several adhesives work with it. For putting large face sections together I use PVC cement. For joints use liquid Super Glue which is super strong. After preping the surface with wet sanding to give it some tooth all types of paints work. www.solarbotics.net/starting/200207_sintra/200207_sintra.html

Will this foam board be strong enough do you think? Also I'm assuming you add some weight for effect? You have started my wheels turning about a number of projects.

To add to the questions approximately how heavy is the finished stock? And what did you use to cut the individual stock sheets out, a dremel tool? Thanks.

It is about the same weight as a light wood but stronger. I issued to a sign shop an Autocad file then the blank sheet is placed on a CNC machine for cutting. Everything is delivered to me pre-cut which you pull from a paper backing. Almost like a paper model kit. The trick is to issue accurate drawings. Cutting the shapes with a knife are completely out of the question. Small details can be cut and shaped with a dremel or saw.

It is very strong, the only draw back would be the surface can ding easier than a hardwood or metal, it's surface is a little stonger than a pine wood but with a good solid final clear coat it is very durable. This is also how I made my 1917A1 and M2. With the build up of the material there is no need to add weight as it weighs about the same as a wood stock when assembled.

you could have made a different stock and barrel, kept the magwell to the side, made it use mp5 mags, and you would have had a type 100.

I'm sure you already have a plan for painting the woodstock but here's what i do to simulate wood...First i spray a base of dark yellow, then some stripes of maroon, then a thin layer of spray-on wood stain. I'd then paint lines with brown ink. Then flat black in some parts for weathering. Finish everything of with a clear coat. Does the sintra handle/behave like wood? Is it porous?

Thanks Jimmi, No open grain after my grinding errors and seams are filled with putty. Your technique is similar to the one on the following link I was going to use as a guide: www.xrestore.com/Pages/FauxWoodGrain.htm

Just a quick update with some of the details added such as rear and front sights, sling attachment points, new trigger and trigger guard. It's starting to look less like a sten in a brown box but an MP28II

Kalbs, I really want to try building one of these over the winter. Any chance of getting that AutoCad file? $?
And do they take MP40 mags, or are they different?

Thanks for the kind words guys. Yes, anyone can have the ACAD file, I just need to adjust it to make-up for the missing and correction of some parts on it based on what I learned doing the build. Send me a PM with your email. I don't want to get into a big massive emailing campaign so if you are doing it then sure, you can have it for free. I'm still not 100% happy with the stock finish or shape so I will sand it down, re-shape and apply another faux finish. This was my first attempt and I think I want it lighter and less grainy. The nice thing about this project is the origional Sten is basically untouched and I can now use a larger stick battery. All internals, structure, inner barrel, hop-up and magazine well is untouched. I only removed the gearbox once for sanding. Only modifications were to the sights being removed and the rear cap cut down. Tube was untouched except adding the AK sight assembly. Below are some of the detail parts I used.

Super-duper. Like many artists you are hard to please. I guess that's how Mona Lisa got painted.
