Bob stop beating the horse lol. Hopefully he gets it. Maybe not, but no sense in going on about it. Sometimes you have to let them go and make the mistakes they are hell bent on making.

I think you are putting to much effort in something that is not worth it. I agree with Fusilier that you should just get a reproduction M35 on ebay or wherever and find the correct size (you can't adjust German helmet sizes). I have seen them for $80-$100 with shipping from China. You will be spending a lot of time dealing with materials you have no idea what you are doing with (and probably ending up in the trash can). But if you are, I wish you the best of luck!

Ok so you spent 25.00 shipped? on the helmet. then your going to fiberglass it(10.00) then you are going to add some leather straps(10.00) then maybe 2.00 for paint(estimates on the glass and straps and paint.) So that is 47.00 Roughly half a repro steel helmet. Plus your time. Or then there is the 25.00 Field cap. If you decide not to go German you can resale the repro cap or helmet. Probably have a hard time selling the cushman. So that's 47.00 down the drain. We have given you enough info to get you started on the cushman thing should you fel the need to keep with that course. Good luck with the project.

Its companies like this that sell VERY inferior products that new guys waste their hard earned cash on. We've all been there at some point, so I understand. The whole point is do your research! Whats good to buy, what's junk! And don't rush into your hobby! Its not going away!

I will let you do whatever you want, it is your money. But don't use the helmet if it is from WWII. You can get 1970s-80s era M1 steel helmets for cheap... maybe $20-30 or so.

In my opinion if you dont know what side your going to be, dont spend all that money on a helmet, spend it on a cap, thats what I would do, but you can do whatever you want.

Resin by itself is brittle. That's why fiberglass cloth or mat is used. It's like rebar in concrete.

If he was looking for an M1 helmet, then I would suggest that he look for an original WW2 front seam helmet.I would like to know why you think it unwise to use an original WW2 helmet? There are quite a few differences between the post war(especially post 1950s)helmets-rear seam, different rim material, slightly different shape, shallower, rides higher on the head, etc. Sorry about that, back to the original topic.

Really that helmet was strictly made for paintball, yes you can modify it but it was made for paintball, and reason why is that in paintball you wear more protctive gear 95% of the time, so having a lighter .09 plastic helmet is a godsend. If you really want a good and realistic german helmet go to Ima or ATF and also Omahas. Good luck man.
