What is the feeling on a National event. One that can be held yearly at different sites.

Battlesim has the closest thing to a national event right now. I know people come from all over the states to go to some of their events. I would love something to happen in the midwest area. Hell the MOA seems to have some great spots to play. They have good impressions showing up, and they seem to have their heads wired on straight. They are also in the middle of the country perhaps a bit north central but about an equal distance from the coasts. I'd support a national event at any of their fields, and I would pay 50-60.00 for an entry fee to help make it worth their while.
I think the problem lies in the amount of under 18 people we have on these boards. A national event is out of their paygrade.

Yea, the other thing is you can't just make a National Event, a National event makes itself. You basically have to make your event attractive and good enough for people to come and keep coming.

I think before there is any serious talk of a National Event, there has to be a regular and continuing procession of quality regional events. That would be the basis from which the National event would draw. CN is right about the MOA fields. They're all good sites. And sgttom makes an excellent point too. The events make themselves. That's why the Washington State events have been popular and caused people to travel. In NY, they have had some quality events and many of us from the Midwest have taken the journey because of it. Hell, we've gone west too. But, back to CN's comments, travel seems to be out of the question for many of the younger board members and their presence would not happen outside anything more regional. Nope... energy would be better spent on more quality regional event planning. I'm sure that someday a "National" will happen but I think it is a ways off.

National events are VERY hard to plan, let alone pull off. In the reenacting community alone there are a number of different "umbrella" organizations who run there events differently, and have different rules and regs. Plus finding a site EVERYONE agrees on. I used to travel as far as VA beach for the 50th anniversary events of D-Day, Anzio and Sicily back in the day. I'm in NY ,and thats almost a 9 hour drive. It was worth it. The Bulge event at Ft. Indiantown Gap next month is a National event. IMO, NOT worth it,well, the battle anyway. MAJOR Hokey gathering shoot 'em up! The best part is hanging out with people you don't see much, and the shopping. But, I digress!
