Coming from Virginia myself and had 2 or 3 family members who served in the American Civil War(two confirmed union and the other is unknown) there is a lot of rich history in our area. It would be cool to do a civil war style battle if we could some how build a custom repeater or musket. Me and pete go down to Gettysburg in the summer and its really cool to see all of the shops they got supporting all styles of impressions from Confederate Artillery all the way to German infantry on Normandy. A good mixture of reproduction gear and the real deal. Infarct, Pete and I use to go and play airsoft at Fort hugar..an old civil war fort I believe was used by the yanks.(correct me if I'm wrong Pete) So, just wondering if there would be any interest on the forum for something like that. I mean I don't have an impression or anything but out of curiosity.

You mean Civil War airsoft? Well I don't have the time, dedication, or money to dive into that. WWII Airsoft is hard enough for me to get together, let alone Civil War lol.

I think that Civil War airsoft will never be quite feasible, nor on the level that we imagine it being with WW2 airsoft. There's just certain things, like the roar of cannons and muskets, that airsoft will never achieve.

18c flintlock pistols isn't exactly ACW, ACW is revovers and rifled muskets.
Muskets would be cool, I have an ide on how to make one, but it means destorying a replica musket worth sevral $100 on a iffy project, something I won't do

There were only a few repeaters used in the Civil War (the Spencer and the Henry are the only ones that come to mind). Most troops carried single shot, muzzleloading rifle-muskets about 4 1/2 feet long. Somehow, a replica .58 caliber rifle musket shooting a 6mm BB seems somehow anticlimactic. A musket lobbing paintballs, on the other hand, could be interesting. Especially if the painballs were red. ;D

A 8mm BB works just fine, and I'm not going to ruin a $1500 impression with paint. the ACW stuff if wool and linen, not something you just though in the washer.

I do ACW reenacting. Both sides. Anything black powder PROBABLY won't work in AS. Western yeah, with revolvers, but it just won't work with rifled muskets.

thats the thing, isnt it. its not replicating the firearm, its finding a way to produce the massive ammounts of noise and smoke necessary to relpicate the experience. its funny, i remember a guy on arnies airsoft made a custom airsoft version of a sharpes rifle musket a while back. as i remember it operated by using a ramrod to cock the piston back to engaged to by the trigger sear. it was cool but obviously was lacking in noise. You could probably produce something that fired percussion caps along with an airsoft action, but you're still lacking a lot of the necessary smoke and noise from a black power rifle. still, its its kind of fun to picture ranks of airsofters shoulder to shoulder.

maybe im just weird, but honeslty an airsoft martini-henry would be nice. i wish they made more lever action rifles in general. it seems most airsoft versions are pretty rare.

haha it would be a hoot, thats for sure, logistically difficult, though, to say the least. but while we're on the subject of colonial conflicts, ive always thought the boer war would translate pretty well into airsoft terms. the rifles arent impossible to imagine making, and the types of small unit actions would be fun to relpicate.

Boer War eyh, Now those were the two wars that happened in the late 1800's early 1900's between the Brits and the African colonies if I am not mistaken. Yes when you think desalinate wasteland with small stone walls and cover-wagons, stage coaches, and dead horses for cover.....not bad. Plus the skirmishes that took place in that war were like 1/6th the size of US civil war battles...and those were the big ones.

Infarct, Pete and I use to go and play airsoft at Fort hugar..an old civil war fort I believe was used by the yanks.(correct me if I'm wrong Pete) Fort Huger was a confederate fort defending the James River.

Meanwhile, that's cool about fort Huger, I'm surprised the national parks system or whatnot never chased you off.
