I want to appeal to all members who live in or around the Chicago area to boycott the WWIIHRS event in Yorkville, Illinois. It's on the weekend of May 15th. A member of the WWIIHRS and organizer of that event is anti-airsoft. He has banned all airsoft guns from this event.

How effective would a boycott be though? perhaps continued dialog is a better path, just tossing out some ideas. -Gordak

I wouldn't make too many waves....if you want to promote WW2 airsoft, starting off with a negative approach may not be the way to go!

I should say that alot of people both in airsoft and RS reenacting are unhappy with this individual. At the Reenactors Fest several were looking for or hunting him down. He is one of these sticks in the mud, very stubborn. I suggested this as a strong measure to get a majorities point across. The organizers of this event are not going to be very happy with him. Most just want what alot of you are saying but he is not responsive to that. His idea's against airsoft in the RS group are being shot down. Now it's just an event he has control over.

I don't know if I'm going to boycott the event, however, you do have my support. This is an issue that has bothered me for some time. It seems ridiculous to me, as airsoft weapons make great props. I mean, most guys out there are toting real guns firing blanks, which is much more dangerous, especially when the airsoft gun is an AEG without a battery or bb's. Reenactors should establish a special weapons check for prop weapons, under which should fall airsoft weapons. Reenactors carrying airsoft guns should be treated in the same manner as someone carrying a real gun. If someone were to bring bb's to an event, it should be immediate grounds for expulsion and possible criminal charges of some type. It should be treated as just as serious as if one were to bring a live round to an event. I think that that would be the best way to look at it. If we are going to bring arisoft guns to reenactments, then it should be our responsibility to ensure they are non-functioning, and safe. Being professional about it is the least we can do. I also think that part of it is that many people are still unfamiliar with what airsoft actually is.
