Any chance that the use of booby traps could be used in any events? I don't mean actually looking to injure or kill someone ofcourse. Maybe like when something gets triggered a small smoke bomb goes off? A lil video explaining some basic WW2 bobby traps. www.youtube.com/watch?v=TlrmVScFnQo

There are plenty of existing airsoft focused things similar, however, I do not like the idea of any yahoo setting up booby traps on the field. Especially anything with a tripwire. Plus then you have to police these things up after you're done. Too much hassle for very little return IMHO.

You cold have props in the battlefield, like a weapon or helmet or crate, that if you pick it up or open it, there is a tag underneath or tied to it that says you are dead!

I like sir veilance's idea. But still, I just wanna see the grim look of someone who triggers it, seeing or hear something. So maybe things like helmets, and other inexpensive things with maybe party poppers?

There are lots of available devices that are quite impressive while still being safe. They are expensive and require both time to implace as well as time to recover. If the scenario and game flow supports it they can be quite a nice enhancement. One cautionary note however is to consider before the fact what ramifications their use might entail. In the army boobytraps was a critical casualty producer during the Vietnam war so they had to be incorporated into training. I rigged what I thought were brilliant and safe replicas of the swing trap puni stake pits that pivoted when stepped on and produced horrifying wounds. I built swing open trap doors in shallow pits and placed surgical tubing protruding from the wall board swing away floors. The surgical tubing where the punji sticks would be. They looked spot on and with fake blood in the surgical tubing looked quite nasty when stepped on. Cool right? They would have been fine if people were walking slowly when they stepped into them....You perhaps get where this is going. A couple nasty sprains later and I realized the fact that genius and stupid are closely linked.
The air powered commercial boobytraps are very cool. I fill them with TALC powder and folks definitely know when they are out. You do have to provide clear expectation and rules about their use and effects. Step on mines produce few elminations while trip wires are far more effective. Be sure whoever installs them knows how to rig break away wires so the trap goes off without actually tripping anyone. When done well boobytraps provides another layer of realism in your events.

I don't see the point in it, for what we do. If you are not there when it's tripped what good is it. I agree that it is just a big hassle. I would rather spend that time shooting my weapon. The hunt is alot more fun. The time you spend with that booby trap opens you up to being a target. I would rather be sitting lying in wait and watching for the enemy. It's a greater thrill to shoot at your target and see the shots hitting home and knowing you got him right than and there.

Setting up and using boobytraps is a lot of effort and requires planning, time to do it and ready acceptable rules etc. To say nothing of the expense and police call afterwards. (Going back out and retrieving them)
With that said, over the years I have had a ball using Claymores, step on mines and trip wire activated TALC powder bombs. As with any tactical application you consider what the enemy is likely to do. What routes they'll take, where they take cover once engaged and what areas to your front that can't be adequately covered with the forces you have. When they are well placed and things go as you imagined it is actually quite satisfying. When you know they are potentially going to employed against you it is one more element in the tension and drama we all enjoy in an action pusuit event. Usually I place them where they will be observed or are tied into a defensive position or a place you anticipate hastily evacuating in hope the opponent will pursue. Occassionally I have employed them in the classic boobytrap way. I once left a small canvas bag on a trail with candy bars spilling out. The bag had a trip wire attached. While I didn't get to see the device work I heard the full story after the event and although scared witless the victim said it was very cool.
I was an observer at an event where I knew an abandoned bunker area had been heavily mined and boobytrapped. The force took over the area and set off one mine at a bunker entrance and searched the area for more finding most. I knew where all of them were so it was fun watching folks walk right past them without seeing them or setting them off. The next day the unit commander stepped right on one at his command post. Everyone came rushing up to see what happened and set off two more. It was cool and frankly very authentic. When done well they definitely add a lot to an event.
