Ackk! I'm not sure I like this at all. Being on facebook is not in the best interests of WW2AA. It will water us down. Further, I already see incorrect information being disseminated about events, in particular, the event we are hosting. I don't like that information is being posted that we don't control and it is erroneous. Specifically end time on Saturday is not 1pm and this is not what I would call an open to everyone event or for that matter is it our intention for guests to bring other guests per se. We like to know who is coming and within reason while the event is open, we like to have some notice. My biggest beef is that I don't want to have to police our announcement on another bulletin board. I understand I am a curmudgeon and not up to speed on everything computer-wise but with WW2AA we always liked the level of control and intimacy within the airsoft WW2 community. You just don't have that with facebook. Facebook has a way of splashing your name, interests and image to everyone and anyone. It seems very invasive and sneaky. Not all our players would like that. If this is something that we have any say in then I would vote no and be cautious about this course of action. Sorry I can't jump on the bandwagon.

Your event has been removed as well as any references to your group and organization-
Sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused you.
By the way, the FB page is moderated, maintained and managed by WW2AA staff, however we will absolutely honor any members wish to not participate with the rest of the membership on the site.
Conversely, we will also not include or add any removed group event or local organization in the future on the Facebook site, in other words, once your gone, your gone.
Carry on...

That's fine with me Guinness. Even though I certainly don't speak for my group on many matters but on Ersatzjack events I certainly can. Like I said, I think WW2AA publicity is up to the task, but I don't claim to be that wired into the new communications options like others. I still think that a notice posted at the grocery store can net valuable participants. I will be more comfortable monitoring our events from the WW2AA site. It is tried and true. Thanks for your quick attention to the matter.

By way of reaching out to any of our members that have reservations or angst regarding our WW2AA Facebook project. I have received concerned requests regarding Facebook Security and privacy and I would like to address these issues as best I can and hopefully put some folks at ease. It is not my intention to 'convert' anyone or force anyone to participate with the larger WW2AA community in this endeavor if you are not fully comfortable, however it seems incumbent upon me, as the WW2AA FB project lead, to perhaps offer some further information and explanation. It has been suggested that participation on a FB site opens one to unwanted, uncontrolled and insecure attention and or access to personal information or at very least opens one to uncontrolled view by unknown persons. This is somewhat true. However, it must be understood that this has nothing whatsoever to do with the WW2AA FB page. It has to do with the user's settings and privacy configuration. Facebook can be as secure or as insecure as the individual user deems necessary. While it is true that the configuration of the WW2AA FB site is 'open', meaning the site has been opened up for all members who knowingly join the site as fans to participate and post on the site, the act of joining provides implied 'consent' to be listed in the active members section of the page. This is to say, if you choose to join, the set-up of our WW2AA FB page will not conceal, nor will it protect your 'identity'. At the time of this posting, we currently have 43 'Fans/Members' (and growing! ) that have chosen to follow our FB page. A large percentage of those members have chosen to use as their FB profile images, pictures showing them in their WWII (or other) impressions. Now taken separately from any membership in a WW2AA FB page, these individuals apparently feel perfectly comfortable with 'the world' seeing them in their military dress, regardless of what that uniform may be or be affiliated with politically. While it is a fact of life that some individuals and employers may use Facebook and someones Facebook membership as a means of 'spying' or snooping, it must be completely understood and clear that if you currently have put out on the Internet images, posts, or replies to posts in threads where you have participated in WWII Re-enacting activities, Airsoft, Military discussion, or, honestly ANYTHING that you feel you would want to protect from the view of 'unknown others'.... It should be fully understood that the 'damage' from that is already done. In other words, regardless of whether or not you use some 'alias' or 'Nom de Guerre' to protect your online activities,...if there is an image out there with your likeness, if you have posted using an email that is connected to you, that info is just as accessible to someone tracking you as is Facebook information. With respect to how this affects current membership on this public forum, the same is true. While this proboard forum has been configured to be 'closed' meaning you must join in order to see the forums and thereby the posts of members, this is in fact an 'open' site that anyone can join. Therefore, all someone seeking information on you would need, if their intention is to track you and learn as much about you as possible, is an email address to see you in your scary Nazi getup and then begin to wonder if your membership in the 'brotherhood is current and paid up.... I do not mean to be flippant, but that is simply the fact. So, with that said, WW2AA will continue to honor the wishes of any of our membership here that do not wish to participate on the FB page, you will not be asked again should you decline the invitation. Thank you for your attention and contribution to WW2AA in any capacity you feel appropriate.

121 Facebook fans can't be wrong! Now join and start contributing! That is an order! *edit: The previous direction to "join and start contributing!" does not include or apply to those enlisted men that have already declined the offer of enlistment in the elite FB Corps... Carry on

Well I started with my own content, then I grabbed some stuff off the boards. We do have 4 'fan' pics, I'd like to increase that participation of course, but I'm hoping between the 4 of us admins we can add as much more as possible. People are joining the page, but if it just remains static, then it will get pretty boring quickly

I don't like FB either - it is analysing everything that it is within there. Lets not forget - once you post something there - it became their property. And privacy is extended as much as the owner (FB owner) wants. As long as the discussions will not be moved there, I'll continue to be part of this community.
