We had a real 37mm gun at an airsoft event a couple years ago and deployed it tactically for a bunker assault. The owner provided training and gun drill skills training to the crew and delivered the gun to the deployment site with his Jeep. The crew then rolled into place and attacked the bunker with it.
The shin skirt was critical at airsoft ranges as until they remembered to lower it, the crew was constantly getting eliminated. Once lowered it was possible for them to tuck in behind the armor protection and push their way into position for the 3 shots it took to take out the bunker.
One of the things covered in the drill was lowering the skirt before recieving fire but inspite of the drills the crew forgot. The fellow who had to race into position under fire and lower it was fun to watch and very lucky. BBs flying everywhere.
Your propr is looking great and is already cool but will really look great when done

Thanks everyone! Got a little done of the skirt this morning, however ran out of cutting wheels and I've been up since 3 AM and don't feel like driving back into town for more. Also one of our new tires was flat this morning.... bummer. Although not totally bb proof, it's a pretty good thing to hide behind. I am hoping to get it out to a game tomorrow for a shake down, figure out what works and what needs improvments on it. Looking forward to blasting some bunkers...

I wondered how you were going to do the shin skirts as turning the gun prevents it from being tied to you upper armor plate. Visually it would be cool if you could create a fake breech block for the rear of the barrel and I would think it could be done without interfering from your housing.
Great job!!!!
The gun looks great and will be a terrific support piece for events as well as a terrific prop One cool effect that I would recommend is add some TALC powder in with your Nerf rocket so when you fire you have the effect of a muzzle blast.

Wow! This thing went really fast. I just got into that building mood and finally got a week of sunny weather to build it. I am really happy with the (almost) end result. Although not a perfect replica, I think it looks close enough. There are a few modifications that will be done down the road, I will add the sight hole, and sights. I am going to replace the 12g co2 adaptor with a system fed off a tank. I may even end up going to a sprinkler valve someday... but for now it's done. It was a very fun project... and cheap actually. Under $200 when all said and done.. and half of that was paint and tires. The whole thing can come apart in seconds to be towed to a field, and then put back together once there. Something tells me the CHP would frown apon me towing it down the road the way it is. I can't wait to try it out this weekend.

Oustanding! The 37mm was of course obsolete as an AT gun quite early in the war but was quite effective with its Flechette round in an anti Infantry role and as a bunker buster. The additional thoughts you have are excellent and it would be great to see you eventually get around to them but for now it looks terrific. Very very cool for $200.00!
The 57mm AT gun that replaced it soldiered on throughout the war and accounted for quite a few German tanks including Panthers in the Battle of the Bulge (Side or rear shots close up!)
It will provide an awesome prop for scenarios and photo ops. Thanks for doing it and thanks for sharing.

I decided I'm going to build a 57 Instead of the M3 because of it not being used in the ETO.

I went with a 37mm becuase of size... the trailer allowed for a pretty close to the right size 37mm. I realize they were not used in the ETO, however I also figured it's not like there are too many tanks out there for me to shoot at, and seeing how it will be used for a prop and bunker busting mostly, I didn't really mind.

Well, it looks like the 37mm but with a Nerf Rocket for ammo and a 2" barrel, you are shooting a 57mm weapon (or darn close).

Didn't Stuart light tanks have 37mm guns?

Yep. They did indeed. The gun was also used on half tracks and dodge weapson carriers early in the war.

I actually found one in the brush out near where I live, I'm hoping to go have a talk with the owner and see if I can remove that "junk" from his brush for him... if that doesn't work see if I can buy it from him. It would be a sweet truck to own even if I never used it for reenacting... it would just be cool to have.

I really want to, I'm just waiting until my tax return gets here... I figure it would be a lot easier to get him to sell it if I have cash in hand.
When I first wanted to buy a 4x4 in high school, I had wanted an wartime Willys or Ford or a CJ2a. However, I realized it was not really going to be able to do what I wanted it to do so I got a Land Cruiser instead.
I have always wanted a ww2 truck of some kind. They are just so cool, so bare bones no frills made for one thing and to do that one thing well. Hopefully it works out... otherwise I'll just pay off my credit cards with the tax return.... that's not much fun at all.

The Dodge with the 37mm gun was officially accepted as the M6 Tank Destroyer. Fortunately, the War Department thought better of the idea very early in the North Africa campaign.
