Greetings all,
Im posting to see f there is any intrest in forming a unit based around the 200th division of the National Revolutionary Army of KMT China.
Im suggesting the 200th division because it was one of the more elite formations of the KMT forces. It was formed in 1938 by Gen. Du Yuming from soviet weapons and supplies that had been flowing into Nationalist China since the begining of the war with Japan. It was the first mechanized unit in the Chinese army, being equiped with a numbe of soviet tanks and German armoured cars. The troops were given soviet gun, equipment and trucks allowing the infantry to be fully motorized.
The 200th divison fought in several major engagments starting with the ending of the first battle of Changsha in the early autum of 1939, which resulted in a Chinese victory. In the winter of 1939-40 they were sent south to repulse the Japanese invasion of Guanxi province. There the 200th division faced off aginst Japans 5th division, which contained the elite 21st Brigade, nicked named "the unbreakable sword". During the heavy fighting the 200th lost most of its tanks but managed to completely wipe out the 21st brigade and won another Victory for China!
Later, it was rebuilt and reformed in to a motorized infantry division. After the Japanese attack on the west, the 200th was sent to fight alongside allied soliders in Burma. It distinguished itsself in the fighting in the battle of toungoo before being forced to retreat back into China.
I have found several sites offering reproduction KMT uniforms and gear. I am based in southwestern Connecticut, and am wondering if there is any intrest for forming this unit. If there is please messege me and post a commnt here.
Regards Clyde

I'm interested. Don't have a Chinese kit, but I'd be willing to start getting one together if you have player support. What are some of those websites you have?

The web sites are as follows fukuo.tw/kmd/This site has a lot of really good repro stuff. Its based in Taiwan and all the prices are in Taiwanese dollars (NTD) at are fairly cheap. The others are on ebay. Just type KMT uniform, into the search and you should be able to find it. One shop is called HIKI shop and they have a lot, you just have to scroll down to where is says Reproduction China WWII. Its a bit more expensive but might be higher quality, I dont know for sure. There are several options for uniforms, with either Khaki, Grey or a Greenish color. The 200th division was issued with Khaki, but if there is an intrest and people wanted to go with another color that would be fine. Equipment wise, we can go one of several ways. For the 200th division the most accurate would be to use Soviet era equipment, anything from early or pre war. We could also go with German early war stuff because that had been imported by the ton leading up to the war with Japan and was issued to the best formations in the KMT army. The other options would be to use a hybrid of equipment, German, Soviet, US, UK, as long as it all comes from the early or pre-war period it dosnt matter. Weapons would be a K98 for rifles, with Broomhandle mausers for pistols. One person could have an American per-war "gangster style" tommy gun. Other then that something Soviet looking for a LMG would be most appropriate. Thats what I got so far p.s. on a side note, as far as footware goes, most chinese units had no boots and wore the black on white kung-fu slipper with a hard rubber bottem. Elite units in the army were still not given boots but would be given modern western black and brown leather shoes, stuf that was everyday where in western countires.

I have one, but I am in Texas :S
I recommend the fukuo uniform... but it will look weird when everybody has different shades of uniform.
You have to becareful when playing airsoft with the tunic (and if you play often in it) because it may fade. Mine has fading in some areas and looks kind of bad, but looks used instead of new though..
If you are getting the L.702 gas mask (the one on fukuo site) try to find one in the US. The French type, I can't remember what type it is, but it is also suitable for reenacting the Chinese forces.
Oh yeah, for footwear, it was recommended with the Swedish ankle boots, but one supplier (so far the only one) ran out. Plus, the boots (well the pair I got) they have out lived their usefulness and were suppose to be sent to the dump but somebody probably thought lets them import them anyways. Another recommended is the British ankle boots. I can't remember what they look like, but they are made for reenacting, but cost $100+. There is the kungfu type shoes that you mentioned, and there is also a version with shoe laces, I recommend that one as it won't fall off. I have seen period pictures of soldiers wearing both types.

Thanks thats very helpful! I wasnt suggesting that we wear different color uniforms, I was just letting eveyone know the different ones avaliable. The 200th division was equiped with Kahaki, and were we to choose them as our unit, thats what we'd have to use. I just didnt want to make any unilateral decisions before we had a group to work with. Just incase someone had a similar idea but didnt want to do it this way. The ankle boot is what ive been hoping to use but its soo hard to find them, atleast for me any way. Also, ive had some trouble lately figureing out if fukuo site is still working, any advice?

Oh ok, thanks for clarifying on the uniforms. I have seen a Hong Kong group wearing several different shades, from the apple green to khaki and a "prisoner" was wearing the grey/blue shade. I don't want to put them down for that, but it looks weird to me. The fukuo site works for me. Their store site is also working. www.fukuo.tw/shopI will try to get an updated photo of me and post it here...

do you have armor vehicles? just curious why you are doing a mechanized division. I also have two CBI-X kit N38D and N1A. Canadian ankle boots works okay. But not the best.

I dont have any vehicles actually. I chose the 200th because they were an elite unit, well supplied, fought on a number of fronts and won some major victories. Unlike, say, the famous 88th, which fought in the battle of Shanghai, which after, it was a runied unit. The 200th remained in action from 38/39 when it was formed, until the surrender in 45 seeing active service all across China and in the critical Burma theater as well.
Also I have to admit, as someone who is comming from blank fire WW2 reenacting, it would be an easy crossover, because the unit was equipped with Soviet rifles and other bits of Soviet equipment. Soviet Mosin-Nagants are much eaiser to come by the Chinese made mausers.
