Ok, so the WNYAL is the Western New York Airsoft League. Don't get me wrong, I am by no way a representative of this fine organization. But I am trying to bring WWII airsoft into the western NY area.
What I need to know is how many people are already in the area or are willing to travel to the area for events or skirms?
I just (as in sent him a message yesterday) approached the head of the WNYA, Mike Haggerty, about running a WWII event. I would like to have a few numbers for him to possibly convince him to support such an endevor.
The way I see it, at least in WNY, there is a vicious circle that is preventing WWII airsoft form taking hold. I think this might exist elsewhere. The three main arguments against WWII airsoft are:
1. It's too expensive to get the gear and uniforms.
2. There are no easily obtainable enemies to fight.
3. There are no good events to participate in.
So, if I got this right, for example, it's too expensive to get the gear and uniform to be...say...German. So there are no Germans for the Allies to fight. So there are no events to provide a reason to spend the time or money to get the gear and uniforms for any side.
Some how this cycle has to stop, or we have to stop trying. So I'm trying to provide an event for the masses. If I can draw some of you guys to add to the event I hope I can jumpstart WWII airsofting in WNY.
I have 4 others in WNY that want to participate, but they each want to do something different. I have been told that there are lots of other people in the WNYAL that would do this if it were provided. Maybe not to the extent that some of you have, but they would still provide fodder for an event.
So, again, I ask who is in WNY that actually already does WWII airsoft? Nationality or impression is irrelevent. Who does WWII airsoft in WNY?
Also, if I get my support, I will need a minimum of 5 USGI's (any variety...ranger, airborne, vanilla) and 5 Germans (preffer Heer as SS could turn people off of the idea before it ever gets started). More is merrier. But I would like a minimum of 5 of each to pull off a convincing event featuring partisans.
The way I see it, a partisan impression is dirt cheap. If I ask for little from these people I might just get it. But once they see a few good period impressions they might just start to take this seriously. Then we would have what we don't have in WNy...WWII airsofting.
