Yeah, the rear part of the stock is m14. I don't think I posted a thread on it on here. It still a work in progress. I have yet to work get the magazines figured out, and I haven't finished the rear part of the stock yet. Also need to build a receiver and rear sights. Just don't have too many projects and hobbies to get anything done quickly. It's getting there though. THe wool shirt I'd like to get, however I got really sick last year and gained a lot of weight and I'm waiting to buy anymore clothes untill I get back in shape.

Good kit so far, but I believe that most infantrymen only had 1 canteen. The two canteens were reserved for medics.

Hey Medic, actually Colhesler is a Medic. He still needs to get his medic bags, and armband. Nice impression you have going Harry. One question why aren't you wearing your wool shirt? Two suggestions: 1: Put the first aid pouch to the rear of your pistol belt, thats how I've seen it on most guys in the 3rd Division. 2: It would be a good idea to ditch the leather chin strap, most 3rd ID guys didn't have them. Anyways, nice going can't wait to see it finished.

colhesler I noticed that your leggings are on backwards. The hooks should be pointing backwards. Andrew

Marine Boy, Yes you'll find many pictures of 3rd ID wearing those boots. I say "those boots" because they are in fact not Jump Boots but built up Service shoes. The 3rd Infantry Division complained about the leggings giving them blisters so the Army added 5 inches to the Service shoes to solve the problem. If you look really closely you'll see the difference. They were exclusively made and used by the 3rd ID. Don't feel bad I thought they were Jump Boots too until another guy corrected me. Jump Boots will pass for an event though if you plan on doing the 3rd a lot I'd probably buy 1943 Double Buckles or Service shoes. Anyways nice impression your looking sharp. One question why do you have the white horizontal bar on the back of your helmet?

Thanks for the comments. Never heard of built up service shoes, were they built-up service shoes built like the paratrooper boots or close to them? The horizental bar on the back of my helmet represents an NCO, a vertical bar would represent an officer.

Ah cool I never knew that. I don't have any close up pictures of them unfortunately. This is the best description I've heard "They added a 5" In. leather cuff that laced up" So their was most likely stitching where they added the cuff. And their were most likely more grommets then the Para boots.

OK, here's my USMC kit thus far: periodairsoft.com/images/ww2/alliedimages/bww22.jpgI know I have some farb in there. I'm open to suggestions. Also, I had a look I wanted to achieve with my kit. Not a specific time and place. However, any suggestions to what I'm close to would be awesome. That way I can continue working toward a more solid kit. Still need boondockers. Some gear is army gear. However, any of it that would have been issued to USMC at some time and can stay, I would like to know. My earrings might be Flaggrantly Wrong...not sure ;D Thanks guys!

Marine Boy, Nice 3rd ID impression! Always good to have another member of the 3rd Herd. Couple points: 1.) Leadership bars were rarely if ever seen on 3rd ID helmets. 2.) Your divisional insignia seems rather large. The 3rd ID began using the divisional insignia on the sides of the helmets during Operation Shingle in January 1944 when they hand painted them 1 1/4"X1 1/4". Later a 2"X2" stencil was standardized: 3.) I would shift your canteen over behind your .45 holster and replace it with your first aid pouch. The pouch was commonly placed in the rear of the cartridge or pistol belt in the 3rd. 4.) I feel that rank insignia was more common on the wool shirt, than the outer jacket, although I'm sure this was mostly a soldier's personal preference, as there are many pictures with stripes on the jacket, too. Remember don't make yourself sniper bait! Great start though, and once you get those patches, throw 'em on everything - 3rd ID loved them patches. Post some more pictures soon!

Thanks guys. I measured a 3rd Id patch and it ended up being 2" by 2". I also switched the pouches on my pistol belt.

Stupid me ;D Yea I am seeing new ones all the time. Retrohead, Nice 3rd ID Impression. I only have a few suggestions, move the carisle pouch to the rear and paint some 3rd Division insignia on your helmet. Anyways nice job. Do you plan on converting the M14 to an M1?

Thanks Tommy, yeah, it's nice.
And now that Nick mentioned it, it does like MTO'ish, strange....
I wasn't sure if I sould post it in "working on it" or "stitch nazi" so I figured I'd post it on "working" move it if you want to.

Yeah, the wools rolled up, Springfield and 1910 model aid pouch all screamed MTO to me. If ya have a 41 jacket, roll it over the back of your cartridge belt. Nick

Hey good kit Waldo!
My only question is what time period/ campaign are you going for?
Judging by your late war depot made roll top P-41 pack and short bayonet scabard coupled with what looks like a US cartridge belt and at least one army canteen cover I would say late 44-45?
I like the fact that you dont have leggings on is great since about as many Marines wore them as didnt. Also I like the US stamped shovel cover, very nice. What 1st aid pouch are you wearing as well?
It does not look like you have to change anything, just add to the kit now.

Tyler The 1910 pouch looks fine if you're doing earlier war, so I'd say keep it if that's what you're going for. Jer Thanks a lot, I have a 2nd pattern cover in the mail from ATF to go with the 1st pattern I'm wearing on the other side but it didn't come in in time. If I get an earlier pack I'd like to go for a 43ish look, and I have USMC leggings, just chose not to wear them for the picture. I'm wearing a M1924 1st aid pouch on the right side of my belt. Nick

For the next event we are doing July 1944, and I switched it just for some change, I've had the 1910 on there for months.
I'll try to post some detailed photos after the event.

Well your off to a great start Waldo and have a great late 44-45 kit going.
See if you can grab a Second contract 42 or 43 dated upper and power pack, those were used the most in 43 and 44 and would deffinatly set that mid 43 look you want. Also grab a Jungle first aid pouch if you can, its not nessecary for a 43 kit but is a very recognizable peice of equipment that says your kit is mid- late 43 without a doubt.
