guitarmaster, A .45 was also regular issue to the assistant BAR gunner (who carried extra ammo and often a carbine, tommygun or greasegun), specialty behind the line troops such as MPs, or quartermasters, and any specialty troops such as mortar, bazooka or flamethrower teams. Nice impression. Like tommygunner said don't worry about the suspenders there were many that stuck with the M36 (they were alot more comfortable but didn't fit the 782 gear very well.) The mussette bags seem to have filtered down to the corpsmen and detached navy personnell by Iwo Jima. The 782 gear was much better than the mussette bags so guys grabbed them as soon as possible. I like your comment that the vet wore his leggings for 31 days on Iwo. Pics illustrate that marines wore the leggings as much as they didn't wear them so that the question of leggings with marines is half dozen of one, 6 of the other.

Tommy gunner, Great to see a different look. I love the period all angles shots. Your Springfield looks great!
Suggestion It'll look a little better if you mask off just the very end of the butt plate and take your stock stain almost all the way back. You can rough file and alter the plastic so it looks more wood like using a dremel and file and rough snad pare or better still smear a thin coat of bondo throughout and then rough sand and paint/ stain.

awesome stuff tommygunner. I'm pretty un-informed when it comes to marine gear but where'd the whole camo helmet scheme come together?

Oh the one in the stich Nazi thread, well it was actually quite common to see US army guys and USMC guys with painted helmets, the OD helmet would show up quite easily in the largly light green foliage of the Jungle so an effort was made to paint the helmets with earth tones. There were many different patterns and styles to painting the helmates and a soldier basically painted his how he wanted usually with raw umber, burnt siena or lighter green colors. It was a common practice even up to the end of the war.
USMC guys alo were known to paint there uniforms in this same fashion, even after the cammo uniforms showed up.

Cary,
For your Garand a couple small touches will make a huge difference. Get the front ferrule hardware that goes between your gas assembly and the forward handguard. Also use some ebony acrylic paint and rub it on the lower stock so the match is closer between the woods. Finally create a dowel that will fill your gas channel under the forward hand guard (and can also be used to hold the assembly together better so you don't have to use the obvious tape.) There are some other, actual Garand parts (Small bits and individual pieces) that will greatly improve the looks of the rifle for your impression. Great to see something other then Thompsons however. Nice effort on the rifle just keep plugging away at the small details so it's look as good as it could.

those things 2nd bat mentioned will be some pretty good improvements. I'd recomend using a hex set-screw through the front end assembly to hold it in place though. I couldnt stand the tape on my garand aeg and sought out for a much better option. about 10 minutes of work really paid off. anyone else interested feel free to pm me about it.

I do have the gas chamber assembly taped and a screw in it. Though, i am gonna leave the stock the color it is lol, i like the three different colors, alot of M1's had all three furniture pieces different colors. So im gonna leave it like that. -Cary

You're right it's not uncommon to see widely varied stock shades on a field Garand. I think however the other items are very worthwhile as without them it looks pretty raggedy and incomplete. They would cost very little and would make a big difference.

Great looking AEG Garand! (Shameless plug) I like the look of the Daisey Mae and beat up HBT jacket which departs from the ordinary and gives a "patrol" look to your impression. Fill your garand pouches (even if it's just with cardboard) have a couple dummy Garand clips stuck in your web gear a short filerless cigarette hanging from your lips and you're there.
Outstanding, Marine No pushups for you.

Cary-
Looking good! The 3rd Infantry Division insignia on your helmet looks great and I can tell you put a lot of effort into it and your impression. You look so much different as compared to the Anzio landings (i.e. not soaking wet! ;D). Your rifle invasion bags looks great as always.
