Thanks 101steasy. To say I'm pleased with how my garand looks is an understatement, it looks great. I think 2nd bat himself even said it was one of his best.

uhh, that knife isn't a k-bar I dont believe. It's an m3 fighting knife. Also it looks like it needs a proper scabbard. Other than that, great stuff.

yep, your probably best off with an m6 or i believe m8 for later in the war (not m8a1, didn't come out until korea i think). fyi, these are the designations for the scabbards, people sometimes confuse them for the knive's designations. Any knife expert feel free to correct me if any of this information is wrong.

Any knife expert feel free to correct me if any of this information is wrong. It remained the m3 trench knife that was housed in the m6 then the m8 scabbard towards the end of the war. the M6 scabbard was the leather scabbard which I use. And then there is the M8 scabbard is more of a plastic looking material... isn't plastic though im not sure what it is made of. Red

Also, our idea of plastic is very different from what it was in the 40's, I shoudl have just specified it as some other material. Is it the same material as a bayonet scabbard?

"moving in with my G/F"-famous last words for a reenactor(jk)
One minor minor suggestion. I suggest moving the canteen onto your left side. For parades especially, when you're doing drill it gets in the way, and when you try to sling your rifle around it it can sometimes be caught, or stick out to your rear too much if in close formation. In combat, guys essentially did whatever they felt was comfortable, but for parades and ceromonys where drill is important, then it becomes more of an issue. lol, I happened to learn this first-hand today when doing drill with the squad and had it on my right, and got chewed out a little bit for it too.

I actually met her a one of our groups public reenactments , and she likes the whole history deal , her dad is a Vietnam vet. I used to have the canteen on my left , but being left handed it bugged the hell out of my, don't ask me why , it just did , so i switched it to the right .

wow, nice. my gal's not into military history very much, but she likes to sew and is just starting to get into civilian peroid stuff. She lets me do the running around in smelly 60 year old army clothes, her dad's a vietnam vet too.
Fine enough if it's on the left if its more comfortable, because guys obviously just moved them to their preferable side when not on review, inspection, parade, ect. When we do those types of things everythings by fm 21-100, so we may be pickier then others. I just switch things to "by the book" for that type of stuff, because its usually very short term or inactive.

Gotta watch out for those strap hangers, Adler! You'll have to bring her to an event so we can check for the lobotomy scar! As for canteen, you often see if off that hip in period photos, as most men are right handed and naturally grab that canteen first. When I was active duty (cue the violin music), I noticed that people's right canteen always went dry first, probably for that reason. I'm predominately left handed, but I'm "right handed canteen" as well as with the trigger...

Ah i've been collecting since i was 12, liek i say theres another two wardrobes of stuff upstairs (mainly dress uniforms). I've recently streamlined the collection and sold a lot of stuff i had duplicates of or was never gong to use (i had about four sets of modern brit soldier 95 and four pairs of assault boots which was silly really, and about ten modern Russian loads that i've reduced to five)
I hate getting rid of stuff as a collector as you never know whats going to become collectable.
I nearly shifted my set of east german kit but its now becoming desirable.
