Hye guys, I fancy myself an exotic weapons enthusiast (if thats possible). I really enjoy the WWII period specifically, and I've found a weird interest in things like the M2 Hyde SMG and the Browning Auto-5, but the other day I heard my friend telling me that in the new Battlefield: Bad Company game, the Japanese use M1 Garands! I was pretty intrigued, so the other dya I got to play it and do some research and discovered that it was actually what they claimed to be a Type 5 Rifle, and that it was a prototype weapon Japan made that was almost an exact copy of the M1 Garand. And thats all. I can't seem to find ANYTHING referencing this gun, or its origins. So I'd like to pose this question to the WW2AA community. Is this gun real??

Durring ww2 and before the japanese researched the idea of using a standardised semi auto weapon for its troops, Many prototypes were prouced but in the end it was decided to be to exspensive to equip each man with a semi auto and there was already a standarized rifle the arasaka so the weapon that you are refering to only existed in prototypes

I apologize for the necro-post, but I feel it is relevant. www.youtube.com/watch?v=xUBvrCACNDQThe video is of the NRA museum giving a detailed overview of the Type 5 rifle. I actually did some research into it myself several months ago. Might be an interesting build for an IJA guy with the proper tools, know how and stones to do so.

I am surprise noone has done this yet. Look at a sporter Type 99 or Type 38 stock on ebay, then look at the stock on the T5!

I believe less than 50 of these rifles were actually built and none were fielded in combat. There are lots of what ifs that could be explored for our hobby but my question would be....why?
In order to portray the PTO there exists a crying need to create common Japanese weapons not obscure prototypes.
