The finish is very nice. It does indeed seem to be wood, coated in linseed oil. The wood of course is not Walnut but whatever it is ( Birtch or ASH.) It looks good. In the early released pictures it looked way too light but the actual gun showed up darker then i was expecting. Some GI, WW2 rifles came with birth furniture so it 's actually fine as it is. I prefer a darker finish so I will do something about it although don't know what yet. The real butt plate won't fit as the stock is just plain bigger in every direction. The real gas assembly is longer than the ICS gas assembly and the real sights and locking lugs are smaller.
Dimensionally this is a Garand on anobolic steroids. In spite of all these comments I'm still delighted with it. I have been pumping rounds through it for four solid days. The clips are working flawlessly now but the best i can do is get 26 to 27 rounds out of each consistently. I have no idea where they come up with a "42 round clip". They hold at most 32 rounds and like all clips drop 3 or four when you reload. Swapping clips is seamless which is nice.

Delighted to hear that the ICS Garand was a great turn out! Finally, us Allied soldiers and marines have a diversity of weapons to choose from, and not only being limited to Thompsons. 2nd Bat, thank you for the insight on this rifle. Personally, I'm going to choose to stay with my 2nd Bat Garand since it's a great rifle and I have many mags for it. 2nd Bat, remember the hassle we had with them? Haha. Everything is up and running with them now though.
I'm also thrilled that I finished converting my Marushin M1 Carbine CDX into an M1A1 Carbine (the paratrooper version). I can portray both a rifleman and sub-machine gunner. Looking forward to adding the M3 Grease Gun and the BAR (and hopefully a CO2 Springfield) to the arsenal!

Tommy gunner I think that is a wise choice. As nice as the ICS is I still have no real concerns skirmishing with my conversions. They are a little better balanced than the ICS and perform almost identically. Mine are a little lighter and less bulky which is a small thing that is noticeable over a days play. Naturally I am biased and I'm really, really familiar with how to quickly swap clips for them.

I agree on that skirmishibility 2nd Bat. Your conversions are more than skirmishable (not to mention reliable). The times I have skirmished with it, I got very nice kills. I was surprised at how accurate the rifle is. I hit a guy dead center in his glasses, and he was about a good 60 feet away inside a bunker with a slit just big enough to show his face and his gun. Definitely going to stick with the 2nd Bat Garand. I have also become very good at swapping the clips.

I shot my garand the other day and WOW, really nice range, hard straight flight with .28's and accurate as hell. the ability to squeeze off multiple fast shots was ideal for getting the right 'hit awareness' factor as well.
I look forward to an event using it.

How many actual shots are you getting per clip? I spent my fourth day shooting the beegeebers out of mine and continue to get more and more used to it. 32 is the most i've been able to get out of a clip and most of the time they stop feeding at 29 rounds. I'm not complaining as it's appropriate in my opinion that it is a low capacity but I was just curious if everyones experience is similar? Given the cost of the clips it's a consideration.

General opinion is the mag holds around 32 rounds. Mine fires nicely on .25s. The wood is starting to darken with usage and air. Still with the g&g version around the corner, the race is still on. tommygunner9 beautiful conversion. Marushin take note please.

Well I am guessing being a bit to thick and off proportioned is better then the stock being too thin in areas.

What type of battery do any of you recommend for this gun?

There is plenty of room in the butt stock for any of a number of battery choices. I have been firing mine with a small 9.6 1500 mah nihm battery and it's working great. I hate the way most airsoft guns provide so little room for batteries that you have to really work hard to get them in and have to take great care not to pinch wires. For the ICS Garand this is absolutely not an issue.
It uses small Tamiya clips.

Yeah, its a great airsoft gun. I recieved a battery with my M1 and charged it for a while, but when I fired it, it stopped after maube 15 shots. I charged it some more, but it still wouldn't work. It seemed to work fine in my M4, but I am guessing the issue is the charger. I am going to purchase a smart charger. Hopefully that will solve the problem.

When airsoft guns come with a "free" battery don't expect to get much performance or use out of them. Quality batteries and a smart charger will increase your joy and reduce your grief probably more than anything in airsoft.

Tommygunner what did you put into yours, the new co2 carbine? I have the older 8mm single action in mine, but would love to upgrade that with the co2 version based on the improved reports.

Okay guys, 23SKIDOO! If you don't mind fellas let's keep this thread focused on the ICS Garand. tommygunner has a nice thread going in the technical section focusing on his wonderful carbine conversion so take the discussion about it over there.

Back to the ICS Garand. I have noticed and m delighted to report that the Lindseed Oil finish is darkening with exposure to the elements and the oil from your hands. As it gets a little field use in my opinion it keeps getting better looking. I had a very flattering coment fom an old veteran neighbor (army and airforce). He said it looked gorgeous but that my own homebuilds looked more the part. I have to say that was pretty cool. He liked the more field worn look and thought the ICS looked too new.
We shot the beejeebers out of the ICS and my 2nd Bat rifles. Lot of dead German Beer cans. Great day

It's so pretty, thus far I can't bring myself to do it but it's only a matter of time before I go ahead and "age" it. I don't think i have shot a newly purchased airsoft gun so much as I have this rifle in the first 10 days of ownership. I'm certainly not getting bored with it. I do love the feel of a Garand and firing it truly puts me in another place and time which is what our hobby is supposed to do.

Hello all, I had a question: I have my ICS M1 Garand, and I had received this battery with my rifle: ICS MC-133 9.6V-1500mAh Ni-MH battery, here is an image of it: www.ukarmsairsoft.com/images/medium/ukarms/MC-133_MED.jpgI was wondering if this is a suitable battery for the ICS M1 Garand. Also, would a smart charger be sufficient for charging this battery? Thanks very much!

That battery dhould work welland you definitely will want to use the smart charger rather than a simple wall charger. The smart charger will keep your battery lively for much longer than the wall charger. Unless you are in a rush to charge your battery use the slower charge rate on your smart charger as this too will prolong the life of your battery.

Wow it's hard to believe that we started receiving this ICS Garand over two years ago and with all the new members to the Forum I thought it appropriate to post an update. I have now put well over 10,000 rounds through my ICS garand with no problems beyond the initial magazine teething issues which have taken care of themselves with use. I did extensively redo some of the visual challenges and aged the gun deliberately and through use. There is a seperate thread on these steps. With use the power is down somewhat but it still fires hard strong and straight. I use .28 s in it and that seems to be the perfect weight for this gun.
It remains my favorite gun. The price on spare mags has settled in at around $15.00 each. The GnG finally came out and is absolutely a better looking rifle as far as precise authenticity but its not quite as strong a shooter and the magazine is only a 20 rounder feeding 17 or 18 actually. This in and of itself is not really an issue. (kind of authentic actually) but the gun only comes with a single clip and as of this writing I haven't seen a source for spares. with those issues in mind and the numerous delays I cancelled my pre order on the GnG. Hopefully spare clips will come out prompting me to buy one.
It is great seeing more and more rifles on our WW2 airsoft fields and fewer and fewer sub machine guns. I hope both the ICS and GnG garand do well as this will encourage more companies to produce WW2 weapons that can serve our needs.

And hopefully they start making some plastic stock versions to encourage beginners to get a main battle rifle instead of an smg.

I agree. An ICS or GnG with simulated wood pieces if perhaps $125.00 To $150.00 less would be huge. when compared to $125.00 Thompsons it would still be expensive but vastly more obtainable than $400.00!

It would definitely make sense for a plastic stocked version to be in the 125$ range since m14s with plastic stock is about the same. Maybe increasing fps or range would encourage new players to choosing the m1 over a thomspon/greasgun.

Typically ICS and GnG offerings are priced higher that the typical AGM, CYMA King Arms offerings especially on lower volume, fresh designs that weren't clones on someone else's research and development. For that reason I'd expect a plastic stock version to still be around $200.00.

There is the added fact of more materials required to make a Garand, than a M14. Regardless of wood or plastic. Garand's stock is longer, has more hardware, etc etc

If they do make it out of a plastic stock, i hope they remove the gap in the gas assembly so you can attach a bayonet. It would be quite fun to yell the order "Fix bayonets!"

I guess when your fantasizing about what manufacturers might do its okay to operate outside the realm of likelihoods. The shape infidelities truly never should have happened and still defy logic as it would not have cost one cent more to have done it right but... It is what it is. The rubber bayonets flop around rediculously and any hard shaped bayonet (even ABS) would really be unsafe so its probably a good thing a bayonet doesn't fit.

I guess that's true. But what about magazine/clips? Unless you use rigger pouches it's pretty hard to change magazine/clips in battle. I've heard of people using bar belts for it.
