I spent a day playing this and then sacked it off as a pile of rubbish. Perhaps i was missing something but i was hoping for battles based on history to a degree... like 1943 eastern front and the choices being restricted to what was there but instead i had some nonesense games of 4 panzer II, a few french tanks and some other fantasy tank versus a similar mish mash on the other side. Essentially it felt like counterstrike on tracks. Massive waste of potential in my eyes to not even have 'historical' setting/server It was also frankly bonkers that despite french tanks seeing about 1 week of wwii and being utterly rubbish they devoted *months* of time to them whereas you couldnt get a British tank despite the British inventing the bloody things

You sound like you would like War Thunder. Its a ww2 aviation themed game, similar to the World Of Warplanes, that is being currently developed, but it kicks the heck out of it! Beside the more popular multiplayer mashup matches, there are historically based multiplayer matches where the aircraft chioces are limited to specific country and time period. Its currently in beta testing so there arent many playing it now, but personally I think its a much better game than the "World of ........" Games.

I perfer wot, but think of it as Call of duty with tanks. the problem is you were trying to take ti as a ww2 tank sim, which tis not. Its just a fun FPS, set around the ww2 period.

WoT is a work in progress, like any other MMO. They just added the preliminary Brit tree. One can argue that it should have come before the French tree, but I do not think anyone is surprised that a Russian developer of a mostly WWII game gave the German, Russian and American vehicles priority. And you seem to have missed the British lend-lease designs available under the Russian tree. I have been driving a Valentine for about a year.
The developers have stated that the game is not restricted to WWII and that they have no hard cut off date. What they do not want is the more modern stuff like smoothbore guns and guided missiles. No arguement on the napkinwaffe though.
And there are some player organized historical battles that limit the types and numbers of available tanks as well as the equipment they can use. No official game mode though, at least not yet. As someone who has been playing since closed beta, the game has seen massive content and quality improvement, so I would not rule out additional game modes in the future.

Just seems an utterly crazy 'no brainer'.
Not putting in a historical mode, something that would have taken the developers about an hour to sort, pretty much turned me and most my WWII mates off it.
I dont see why French is more of a priority than UK tanks given that a hell of a lot more lend lease vehicles came from the UK and only one or two pre war designs came from france.
Just seems a really backwards way to make stuff.
TBH there are so many better game out there, tried it, found it to be toss, deleted it.

Presumably you are hyperbolizing, but as a software developer, I can say that it would be no simple task to add a historical mode. Matchmaking is already a very difficult task. Adding additional filters would only complicate matters. Do not get me wrong, I would like to see a historical mode, but I also appreciate how much work it would take.
If I had to guess, the French line got pritority because so many of their post-war tanks use auto-loaders, so they added more diversity (in the form of a new game mechanic) than British tanks would have. This of course assumes a single development team, which may not be the case.
I am not sure I follow the logic of your complaint given that you are comparing two completely different things from two different time periods. You are also incorrect. France had well over a dozen designs before the war, and they were second only to the Soviet Union in pre-war tank production.

Gadge, if you are looking for an historically authentic simulation of WW2 tank fighting (penetrations calculated accdg to angle, deflection, armor thickness and range) look no further than the Combat Mission Series by battlefront. www.battlefront.com/
