Once again a move to ban airsoft. California is proposing all airsoft replicas be ENTIRELY painted in a flourescent color so as not to be confused with real firearms.
This potentially impacts all of us even if we don't live in California as so many of the distributors are there and the trend of course could spread.
Info and suggestions about what we can all do on Youtube. and at AirsoftGI. Definitely calls for action on all our parts.

More legislation geared at destroying an industry, reducing jobs, and potentially impacting the economy, gotta love California! 2nd Bat is right, we all need to figure out a way to be heard. Luckily it looks like the NRA is opposed to this bill.

Do gooder legislators - the real "national socialists" in this land. Chip away at freedoms one at a time until there are none left. Like most legislation, this isn't needed at all.
I had to modify my post because apparently I can't type the shortened version of national socialists on this board. It comes up as "the baddies". Apparently there are also do gooders guarding this site. Good thing the books I read didn't worry about terminology or I would have learned less in life. Sheeessssh.

As a Socal Airsofter, this kind of move by our state legislature does not surprise me. In fact, I would have been more surprised if they DIDN'T try something in this ballpark.
And if they think that painting airsoft guns flourescent colors would distinguish them from REAL guns, what's to stop some idiot with coming up with the idea of painting a REAL gun flourescent?

It's really too bad this state is so nice to live in... otherwise I would be out of here so fast. Sadly, it's pretty much an outdoor loving person's mecca and I just couldn't imagine not living near so many awesome places to enjoy. Sooooo I will have to deal with the commie/"national socialists" in our state government.
Maybe someday this state will pull it's head out of it's ass and realize it only hurts it's self with crap like this. Kill jobs, kill hobbies, kill economy. applesauce , I know I spend about $50 in gas and food and such just to drive to a field and play... if I can't play anymore I won't be spending that money.
Evike, ASGI, AEX... all based in CA. They will go under for at least have to move out of state... either way, jobs lost and tax money lost. CA can't afford either.
As said before, they just keep chipping away at our freedoms a little bit at a time, hoping we won't care enough to actually do anything other then bitch about it. Think about how much has been lost in the last 50 years... think about how much freedom has been lost in the last 20 years... even in the last 5. Scary times.
Also.. since when can we not type n-a-z-i on a ww2 board? Really?

If you want to see how bad a country can be just look to the north to Canada. Every crack brained liberal scheme ever thought of down here has been enacted up there. Just witness public health. I would hate to think the liberal laws of Cal would end up the law of the land here as it did in Canada.

I feel this will be shot down especially because of all the major retailers located in california who will most likely be strongly opposed to such legislation.

can we please keep things civil and not mention liberals as crack brained and go off target on the gun thing..otherwise next thing you know there will be retallitory remarks from some liberal posters about greedy heartless republicans that could careless if "poor people" have healthcare and then it will go back and forth and devolve into a mess one of us will have to clean up. Back to the CA gun law, pretty please.

Yes please. Airsoft is not an exclusively conservative sport. Besides, from what I have read, this is not meant as a direct attack on airsoft. It is a knee-jerk over reaction to a kid getting shot by police when he ignored commands and produced an airsoft weapon at night. The responses from Spartan Imports and Crossman are rather informative.

Seems a pretty direct attack on airsoft to me........ Anyhow painting airsoft guns in fluorescent color certainly won't prevent any crime or injury.

I'm more worried about the the black airsoft guns going across the border to the drug cartels. Think of all the violence that will occur!!

As a person who likes pet reptiles, I can tell you that crap like this happens all the time and is not restricted to California. You want really, really stupid restriction laws? Try NYC. I live in New York State and they have no laws about airsoft guns specifically (but they do about piranhas, large snakes and big monitor lizards). My specific county though apparently has a law banning the use of "air powered rifles" or something like that. The law was written about 20 years before airsoft was invented and was aimed towards pellet and BB guns. It still applies though. Imagine my surprise when I was taught this by two police officers who busted our game.

Im a socal airsofter and il do whatever it takes to not let this pass. In addition, i lean more liberal than conservative, so yeh airsoft isnt a conservative john deere hobby. Serisouly whats the point? Its not that hard to repaint a gun...If this does pass im gonna stock pile on a ton of airsoft weapons. I dont give a crap I will secretly airsoft in the mountains, in my backyard, EVEN IN MY HOUSE!!!

It is worthwhile for all of us to follow the advice suggested in the You Tube and write the legislative personnel recommended as hand wringing and posts on a forum thread do absolutely nothing and we all do have a stake in this. I wrote the folks listed andhave the satisfaction of knowing I took some action however meager.
I live in Washington state but it could easily be next. Teenagers dumb enough to walk around in public with an airsoft weapon and ignore the direct commands of a law enforcement officer are part of Gods plan to insure the mouth breathers of the world never get to breeding age. The toughest part is the impact on the psyche of the police officer although truthfully he or she would have nothing to fret about in my book.

Just ban California from the Union or give it back to Mexico. They are a drain on the coffers anyway.
After reading the bill, the bill is designed to protect the "Stupid" who branish toy guns infront of police officers.
I don't understand the orange gun logic. This idea was sort of tested in the Philippines with registration. End of the day it was found that it is easier for criminals to get real guns than airsoft toys because stolen guns cost less than walking into a shop to buy an AEG.

I think the title of this thread should be changed. California isn't trying to ban airsoft, they're trying to enforce all upcoming replicas made a two tone or full neon/fluorescent coloration.

As Kalbs said the law is targeted at stupid people who would point a replica gun at a police officer. Its more of a safety thing then a crime reducing issue. The thing is if someone points something that looks like a firearm at you whether it is pink and polka dot or a black you have to take action. This is because a criminal could obviously paint his gun in such a color. The law wouldn't actually solve anything in the end. It would just make things more confusing. The point is don't point a replica gun at police or anyone for that matter unless you want to get shot. As the Crossman article Rekkon posted said its a behavior issue not a product issue.

We need to fight this guys. Republican, Democrat it doesn't matter, we are all Americans and we have stood by for too long as unjust laws are passed. Eventually it will be to late to turn our country around. In the words of Ronald Reagan "Its been said if we lose that war and in so doing lose this way of freedom of ours, History will record with the greatest astonishment that those that had the most to lose, did the least to prevent its happening."
I'm only 16, and my parents have taught me to be proud of America. Not apologetic. I love this country, I think it is the best place on earth and I wouldn't live anywhere else.
This bill, I just don't know what to say about it, If one person does something stupid with an airsoft gun, but everyone else is responsible, should the government be able to take the airsoft gun away? I don't think so.
I'm sorry for my little rant but I have been doing a lot of research lately on the Federal reserve and Government programs and this bill finally pushed me over the edge.

California gets back about $.75 for every tax dollar it sends to Washington. Go ahead. Kick us out. ;D But don't expect to keep getting those checks in the mail. The real problem with California is too damned many people.

Too many people, and most of them are Guy on a short bused.
This is looking like it's going to pass. Don't think it will effect you? AirsoftGi, Evike, AEX, and others are all in California. Maybe they will relocate... or maybe they will just close up shop and be done.
Then comes the fact that other dumbass lawmakers in other states will see this and say "hey, that's a good idea to protect kids and police and whoever else I think I can get votes from if I introduce this idea here" and it will spread.

Its not the number of people it is the number of dumb people, unfortunately everyplace seems to be plagued with them these days. Hopefully other states will not follow California's lead.

Online petitions don't do crap. They don't mean crap to polititions, I doubt they ever even see them or know about them to be honest. Call them and bitch at them or there staff... not about how it will "kill our hobby" becuase they could care less about that. Tell them how it will destroy jobs and take tax money out of the state.. they might care about that enough to think it through a little more.

It's true that sitting back and thinking this won't pass or won't effect you in other states is the kind of apathy and inaction that historically allows dumb laws to pass and a small minority of people to rule others. If you don't take some action on this and simply bitch about it in a thread you are in fact part of the problem.
Emphasis on jobs and tax revenues is definitely where you want to direct your concern as reason or passion has no ear but money talks loudly.
This is really going to blow if this passes.

Yep it will cause job loss and such however it is also a nonsensical law. It will not end up protecting anyone like it is intended to do.
