This is nothing like Company of heroes, this is based on reality and realism.
Infact the game is best played as turn based, but you can play in real time if you want.
The demo has 3 missions, but I've spent the past two days in just the toturial mission.
The mission is as follows, you start with 2 shermans, a platoon of infantry, with fire suport, 3 rifle squads, 1 mg squad, mg ammo carriers, 1 mortar squad, and HQ squad.
Later you get reinforcements of 3 more squads, 1 more mortar and1 more mg pluss 3 more shermans.
The enemy is german POW and second rate troops, so this should be easy right?
Well no, the germans got a pak 40, that takes out any tanks trying to move into the open, it is in diffrent places each time you play. So you never know were it is.
The germans also are intreached in the french hedgerows, and you have to go in and rout them out.
The map is devided into a right and left flank, devided by a road that leads to a cross road.
The right flanks is hedgerow hell, the left is a hedge then 450 yards of open field, on the left of the left flanks is a farm.
The mission is to take and hold the crossroad and if possible the farm.
I used all my first troops on the left flanks, putting them in the hedgerow that separates it from the 450 yards of open field, I deployed my MG there, and let my HQ unit scout, that let me use the radio so my mortar could blind fire, it used 32 rounds to take out a MG nest by a stone wall, my MG opened fire on the other germans that were behind the stone wall, 450 yards across the field.
When I got reinforcments I sent them to the right flank with a tanks, I chaced the germans out of the first line of hedgerows, but there was 5!!! more lines of them, all with germans, so I had to use 3 rifle squads and my MG to supress and move, supress and move, I spent 20 minutes with this, on the left flank I did capture the farm, but alot of american lives were lost. I then tried a foolish charge across 450 yards of open ground, with 2 tanks and 2 rifle squads with MG cover fire, they were wiped out, 50% casualties. what was left, took cover in the farm. Both tanks were easy meat for the Pak 40.
After 20 mines of hedgerow hell, I finnaly got a rilfe squad in flank possion, they masacared the last germans by the cross road. they took out the pak 40, and about 20 other germans, a few germans surrenderd, but most got mowed down by cross fire, I with the Pak 40 out I tok my one remaining tank and flushed out the germans behind the stone wall.
Victroy was mine, but 44 brave americans died 23 more wounded, 4 out of 5 tanks out of action.
The germans lost 35 dead, 20 woulnded and 15 captured.
I have to give it another try, I can't go around loosing 50% of my company to flush out some POW and second rate troops.
