My latest experience is...interesting. I decided to work up a Russkie impression. I ordered most of the stuff from Hiki on May 15. Went to Hessen to pick up a few more items a few days later and found out they were out of pilotkas and canteen. So I ordered those from Hiki, about May 18 I think. Those items arrived Monday. Still waiting on the main order.

How are the pockets on EM tunic? They look like they could be a straight, or a slightly slanted. I can't tell from the photos. Originals had slanted pockets. What about hiki tunics?
Also..do hiki uniforms come with any insignia at all? I'm thinking about getting a few to outfit a few extras in a film I'm working on.

I guess it's on "the slow boat from China." (Yeah, you're probably not old enough to remember the origin of that expression)

Chinese immigrants coming over on boats?

Chinese immigrants coming over on boats? Well, the original expression was "a slow boat to China," referring to something that took a long time. I flipped it for the current situation. I can only assume it came from the old sailing ship days when getting to China was a long, slow trip.

In the era between steam ships and sailing ships when sailing ships still hauled freight there was great disparity in how long ocean voyages took. Sailing ships did not require coal and being older ships had long since been paid for. As the name suggests, they were dependant on the wind. Shipping by sail was cheaper than by steam powered freighter but the arrival times were very slow and unpredictable. The "Slow Boat" was the cheaper sail powered vessel.
Another expression my father used, to describe slow delivery was: "Did they ship it on a mule?". He grew up in a time of predominant horse power. As a kid his father did buy a used Model T Ford but decided on the ranch it was more valuable up on blocks hookied up as a water pump and band saw. The world has changed immensely since he was a boy. Even more remarkably since I was a boy and for all you 20 somethings and younger the changes you will see will be greater still!

I really haven't notice any differences in the past decade:) Maybe something big will come up in five years or more. Speaking of Hikishop, they've just opened their WW2 French line with the M1938 greatcoat.Would love to see them touch more into WWI stuff soon. www.hikishop.com/ww2-france-french-m38-m1938-wool-great-coat-overcoat-p-1318.html

Do Hiki EM German tunics come with any insignia? And are the pockets straight or slanted like originals?

When I got my M44 from them it didn't come with any insignias, which I too expected it to be included.I'm not sure of the other tunics. As for the pockets I'm not sure as I've not ordered any other tunics from them.My guess is that they are probably accurate.

The photos show them being straight, which is inaccurate. I just wanted to be sure

The order came today. So, shipping by slow boat from China is close to a month.

you bought a lot of hiki stuff. for Japanese, it's really the only site you can buy from and even if Nakata shipped, it seems like they aren't restocking their Japanese stuff anymore

So I'm considering buying a German wool uniform from Hikishop & have been reading through this thread & am Slightly confused, some posts say their tunics come up a bit small but according to their size guide a small is a 44" chest! Can any of you guys clarify this? Do they actually run small? My plan is an M36 along with M37 trousers, would appreciate any insight into this as it's hardly worth returning something bought in the wrong size with shipping costs as they are

As a general rule of thumb when ordering any clothes, always order a larger size when in doubt. Any tailor worth their salt can tailor something bigger than your size to fit you.

Not sure my budget would stretch to using a tailor to alter a tunic, guess my real question should be does anyone know if Hikishop's size chart is accurate? I

My experience, on the few items I've ordered, was to ignore the letter sizes (S, M, L etc) and rely on the numbers. A 42 chest seems to fit a 42 chest.
