Great Video Alex,
I love the flickering film style you used. The sound track from Kelly's Heroes is a great touch.
Very well done.

Tom and I had build the beach obstacles, dug some holes that looked like naval artillery craters, we even spray painted the edges black to have that charred look.
The first few times I ran out of the Higgins boat I was killed shortly after getting to cover, but I finally made it to one of the impact craters and was able to lay down some great covering fire to let our boys up the beach. I had spent all my clips and had to run back to the ammo can by the boat, I was killed while I was reloading my last clips, I felt 3 different bbs ping off my helmet. Damn!
My next trip out I went back to the crater, laid down some fire at the German lines, saw a couple of Krauts leave the line dead, so I rushed forward. I heard the krauts talkin about how I was behind the bush, I got out 2 pea grenades, threw them towards the voices, then ran to the right up the hill, a kraut popped up, I shot the ground in front of him, I almost shot him in the face from a foot away! good thing I didn't. I meant to yell safety kill but the adrenalin was pumping. I stepped up behind the Krauts! I shot up the line killing 3 more of them. By this time I was joined by the others from the beach. The beach scenario ended shortly after.

I realize this is a late AAR but hopefully the enthusiasm exhibited by everybody is still there.
I have to say that this was by far the best event I have attended to date. It contained everything from realism, to intrigue, to downright scariness. I liked the fact that this was campaigned based and the flow of events just kept on continuing. It made for a great two days of excitement and planning. If I had one complaint it would be the fact that the Germans had to give in and let the tired Americans take over the beach front and the artillery hill. While I understand they had a much harder job in front of them and the sun was baking the hell out of them, I would have preferred instead that a “no respawn” order had been effected so that the Germans could have kept fighting till the last man standing. I think this would have been more gratifying to the Americans for having really won the battle and more gratifying for the Germans that would have kept fighting until really shot at and killed with no chance of revivement. Might be something to consider for future events where the order of battle is counterbalanced.
That said I will focus my AAR on the night time event the first night. My job was to protect the Artillery station and I felt quite safe behind our bunker emplacement on top of a hill. For about 20 minutes we just stared at total darkness until all of a sudden in the distance we could see sporadic white and red lights flicker towards us. The woods where deathly quiet, yet these lights kept coming closer and closer. Eventually we started hearing twigs cracking not only from the direction of the lights but from other dark areas in the woods. “Crap, they are coming for us” I thought, and trained my weapon in the direction of the lights and noises. The lights would come on for about 3 seconds then go off and a minute later would reappear in a different spot only closer to us. Was this friend or foe? No one knew for sure until we started hearing the infamous cricket clicks. First in front of us, then to our right then what appeared all around us. What an unnerving feeling it was, we knew they where out there, it felt like they were toying with our nerves as they engaged in a concert of cricket clicks that grew louder and louder. Finally we could take it no longer and threw a barrage of fire in their direction, grenades, cannons, everything we had. This lasted for about 2 minutes.... then silence again…… Did we kill them? no one really knew but this went on for several hours until we were finally called back to base.
Another fabulous experience was when we were tasked to do a patrol in the night. Gordak’s unit was to go first and we were to follow closely behind. We had had reports of a whole squad that got eliminated by some Allies and another squad that came under heavy fire, so needless to say nerves were on edge. We walked in the woods in total darkness only occasionally putting on lights to ensure we would not break our necks. About half way through I heard some noise in the woods. I whispered to my unit to halt and lay low. I crouched down and listened. After about a minute I whispered to one of my members if he heard anything. I got not response, I whispered again and discovered that I was alone. They had not heard me when I said to stop and continued on into the darkness. I was alone with no idea where the rest of the troops where. Then to my left I heard a cricket click only to be followed to my right by another cricket response and then a third and a fourth. “Holy crap”, I thought, “I am surrounded” . I sat there listening to the cricket concerto both in awe and in fear that I was about to get pummeled by a whole platoon of angry yanks. Then in the distance I saw a red light walk towards me, it was one of the Americans trying to make his way to the cricket sounds behind me. I crouched down and aimed my MP40 in his direction figuring that once he came upon me he would either be killed or I could make him surrender. As he got within 60 feet of me I heard him whisper, ”Flash” and then a voice no more than 15 feet from me responded “Thunder”. F#@%&%$@! There is a freaging American right next to me and he does not know I am here and I did not know he was there until now! What an adrenaline rush! I decided to wait until the red light met up with the yank next to me and then would lob a grenade at both of them and end this nightmare. No sooner does the red light come within 20 feet of me I hear at the top of the woods.... “fire!” followed by 10 machine guns blazing towards the two yanks. What a melody to my ears, I am not alone, the cavalry is waiting nearby and has just launched a massive attack close to my position. I partake with multiple grenade throws and MP40 fire for about 1 minute then……total silence. There was not a sound for what felt like an eternity when out of the blue a voice next to me says “don’t shoot… I surrender”. The last surving American was surrendering. We all came out of our hiding and promptly took him into custody. It was finally over, I was back with my unit and we all survived. The prisoner was escorted back to camp under heavy escort.
This was my first time doing night time and I must say it added a whole new sense of game play that is without a doubt exhilarating. I hope we do more in the future and do more overnighters as it extends the game play and allows those that live far to make the trip worthwhile.
All it all this was a fantastic reenactment, the blank fire guys were a huge addition and I hope they will consider joining us again for future campaigns. Kudos to all those that helped organize it, the memories will live on for a long time.

Really great pics and video man! ;D The rest of my AAR After the beach landings I dropped gear and picked up my camera, I went about the battlefield shooting various pics, after awhile I ran back to my car and geared back up for battle, I walked in to the right of the village to get back to around to where I knew the other GIs were. I ran into some airborne guys trying to get up the hill towards the pak, heard some real gun fire, even saw the krauts face, but didn't see him shooting at me. I though he was aiming at the other guys, so I went far right and back up the hill but by the time I got up the hill the battle was over. Damn! The next phase was to attack the village. So I went with the airborne guys toward the village. When we got to the dip in the earth we started to take some fire. Some of us fired while one guy threw a grenade, it landed right on the krauts foot! We advanced forward, I heard gunfire to my right and sucked to the ground. BBs few right over my head! But when I peeked up to fire back I heard the distinct ping on my helmet. Damn! I forgot about the medic rules and counted myself dead, and started to walk back to the hill where we came from. I ran into some guy on the way back, he wanted to know where everyone was, but I couldn't help him for I was dead and told him so. I made it back to the hill waited 5 minutes then started back towards the village, I ran into Joe's kid, I cant remember his name. Anyway, he was with one other guy and I told him we'd swing far left to get around the village. We started off, I saw some guys heading toward the village and I believe the guys with me joined them because when I looked behind me I was alone. I decided to push on. I was walking through the swamp, when I saw a SS kid he opened fire but I heard the familiar sound of a airsoft gun dry fire, what luck! I opened fire back, the kid ran back behind a tree, I could see my bbs hitting him but he wasn't calling out or acting dead. He got behind the tree and started to fire back so I ran back into the swamp since I was in the open. I heard fire coming from my left so I was out numbered. The Kraut to my left kept trying to get me but none of his bbs could get through the thicket of trees and shrubs between us. I heard a gunshot to my right and heard a blank reenactor yelling at some GI that he was dead, so I lit him up ;D I heard somebody yell "cease fire" I heard it twice before I yelled it so the krauts in the swamp would stop firing. I walked out of the woods to the village along with everyone else wondering why the cease fire was called. nobody head a clue. After some time it was decided that a new scenario will be done with the Americans defending the beach. I got to the trench system, I was to hold the hillside to the right of the trench. I killed many krauts from up on the hill. I got into a firefight with this one kid, I saw him come up take cover, I opened up on him a couple of bursts. I saw my bbs pepper all over where he was. He started to return fire, he got a good couple of shots on my gun, I kept firing back. he finally called dead, he yelled how didn't I get you? I yelled the same question back considering I had the drop on him. He didn't have an answer, but since it was a dispute I walked off the field, and decided to get my camera and get some last minute action pics. I walked around the field again, getting various pulitzer prize winning photos that will never see the light of day thanks to wallgreens. The battle wrapped up, I took some group pics, mingled, packed up for home. It was a great D-Day event, I was glad to be apart of it.
