I would buy the tunic and pants from Gavin Militaria. They are a really good price and they tailor you uniform for only a $8 extra. The Hessen tunics are just overpriced in my opinion. As a warning stay away from the Sturm type boots which Hessen sells.

I wouldn't get the mess tin from Hikishop, the lid looks too tall. The canteen looks nice but it is the medic version. The difference is the medic version is larger 1 liter in size. The only thing I would get from Gavin is the Tunic and Trousers. The hikishop webgear is fine. The best gaiters are 1944 Militaria or At the Front. Spearhead Militaria helmets are decent and so are Military Tours. I'd stay away from Sturm breadbags and gaiters, they look pretty bad. Hessen carries sturm stuff just so you know what it is. As far as the boots go swiss boots are the best bang for your buck. Otherwise I'd suggest one of the vendors I mentioned above. www.militarytour.com/Reproductions/WW11/German/Uniforms/Low.htmThey need hobnails, and heel irons. It will cost about $40 to put them all on. Still they are cheaper then Sturm boots and will hold up for a lifetime.

For an MP40 loadout here is what you'll need. Belt and Buckle Breadbag Canteen Mess Tin MP40 pouches Y-straps Tunic Trousers Low Boots Gaiters Stahlhelm M43 Cap or overseas cap
That would be your basic impression. If you want more I'd get a zeltbahn, a wool blanket, grenades, and some personal items. I'll also say I wouldn't suggest buying the cheapest stuff possible, you'll often regret it later on.

I agree with sgttom but as far as the canteen is concerned i can vouch for it. i've had one for around a year using it at games almost every weekend and its held up fine. they also have one with the more iconic brown felt cover but its around 20 dollars more.
compared to hessen's 46 dollar economy canteen, it's rather cheap. on the downside it takes around 3 weeks for a product from youchunhe to get here in the philippines. God knows how long it'll take to get to you.
Perhaps you can check out the various european ebay sellers. I've seen original canteens go for rather cheap.

I am going to vouch for Youchune right now On the 22nd I put an order in for a afrika Korps hat, An officers Belt, Y straps the 1 liter medic canteen, a vietnam era Asian Canteen and several AK47 chest rigs. The package was waiting for me when I got home from work today. I live on the East coast to. For the price they are very quality products though time will tell.
Also for MP40 pouches try International Military Antiques, they have some cool stuff cheap and I got my mp40 pouches there. Only gripe is one of the leather straps to close the pouch is made of a substandard cheap leather the rest is very good quality.....not bad for 34$ though.
Soldat747 on Ebay has some good prices aswell.

I've seen on in person. The outside looks nice but the actual canteen is post-war and looks different. I'd skip it and save for a better one. I've seen some nice ones for sale on the reenactors forum. You could also just save up and get a better repro. You may have some luck if you go out to reenactments in your area too. If you make it to a big one you'll often find a lot of good deals.

A basic Waffen SS Landser uniform, without a gun, will cost you about $650.00 give or take. The most basic impression is as follows: *Wool Tunic (I like the M40 and M43 or DoT 44 Camouflage tunic. No other form of camo tunic would be issued on a regular basis to the average Waffen SS soldier.) *Wool Trousers, or Dot44 or Italian camouflage *Waffen SS Belt and Buckle *Magazine pouches * High boots for early war, short boots for mid to late war * Y Straps * Breadbag ( Not the blue Luftwaffe version) *Canteen *Gas mask can

You should look for a postwar Berlin Police mess kit as they're almost identical to wartime. I would not worry about using a 1 liter canteen at all. They were used by anyone who could get them. You do not want one that has all of the medic harness and strap stuff though. I love the extra capacity of the one I've been using for many years. Both At The Front and Hessen sell Sturm uniforms. They're decent entry level uniforms that are well made. Andy

Only helmets shells are real. I sure hope you don't think all ATf stuff is authentic. For wool tunic, Id go Hessen or Lost battalions. For camo, I'd go SMW.

I believe he means authentic as in correct, not original.
Dot44 is only correct in extremely late war events. They werent even made until '44 and many SS units never got any real supplies of them.
The best bet is to get a basic wool uniform, or HBT's for summer heat, and a smock and helmet cover. They are far more common and used throughout the war making them correct for almost any battle.
Dont forget to mix and match smock and cover. They were rarely issued as a set.
If you go to at the front's website, look under package deals, it will give you a good list of what a starting impression needs, even if you decide to buy from other sources.

ok, one last thing,
If you are going the dot44 route, keep in mind that it is rare to see them together as a set. Wear 44 top with wool trousers, or 44 trousers with tunic or smock, etc. If wearing the trousers, wear low boots with gaiters. You didnt see jacks with 44dot, too late war.
