Lots of talk about the temps being cold and the overnight conditions.
Perhaps we should open up this discussion to suggestions how to combat these conditions. Please keep in mind that the US forces will be in the village and the Germans will probably be camped out on Kafir Hill (don't kill me on the spelling). Another possibility is for the Germans to be camped out at the fire base area.
The battle scenarios will be for the Germans to mount the offensive on the village. So they can theoretically attack from either point.
Feel free to chime in.

In all reality if everyone brings wool socks (lots of them), a negative degree rated slepping bag, extra sleeping clothes, thermal clothes (long johns), we should be fine then if we set up a warming station and have fires at each camp we should be good. I am trained for cold weather camping and activities so when planning needs to be done or if there is any questions on how to be prepaired, you can p'm me. ackack

Capt. Hildner and I were discussing what we would like to do at the Allied base in the village.
First off is to probably get a large tarp(s) to give us a roof (or partial roof) on the buildings. Set up camp fires where needed.
Strategically set up fires throughout the village. We will probably be asking everyone to bring at least one bundle of wood (the kind you get at Home Depot for $5.00) with them. This way we have a good base of wood to work with.
We will set up a warming station/chow area in one of the buildings with a camp fire going. The chow area will be equipped with hot soup, hot coffee and hot chocolate. This way players can come in when they need to warm up, get some hot chow in them and return to the line.
As for the Germans, I know they'll have their own thoughts and be up to the task, as they always are.
The one thing that does concern me is our batteries dying and/or not lasting that long if the temps are real low. Players may want to consider how they can keep their batteries/guns warm as well throughout the night.
Keep the ideas/thoughts coming.

wrap the batterys in a scarf or winter hat and keep it in your sleeping bag when your sleeping and you may want to put any water in your bag because if you dont it will freeze. water is still very important in the winter. ackack

Agreed for batteries, as for guns AEG's are relatively Unaffected You just have to keep the batteries warm, also when you fire, the gun Heats itself up. So I guess We have to think about how to keep the batteries warm.

Excellent idea with the batteries Zach.
Yes the water is important to keep unfrozen as well.
I think we all know what we'll be up against with the weather conditions and all, BUT, it seems like we are all embracing the challenge and will have fun with it.
Keep those thoughts coming.
I'll be posting up a story line/battle scenarios soon along with the Rules of Engagement.
Cheers, Migs

For the batteries I always use those ski hand warmers in the winter to keep my gun and battery warm. Works fine.

To the U.S.A. Commander of the encircled town of Bastogne. The fortune of war is changing. This time the U.S.A. forces in and near Bastogne have been encircled by strong German armored units. More German armored units have crossed the river Our near Ortheuville, have taken Marche and reached St. Hubert by passing through Hompre-Sibret-Tillet. Libramont is in German hands. There is only one possibility to save the encircled U.S.A. troops from total annihilation: that is the honorable surrender of the encircled town. In order to think it over a term of two hours will be granted beginning with the presentation of this note. If this proposal should be rejected one German Artillery Corps and six heavy A. A. Battalions are ready to annihilate the U.S.A. troops in and near Bastogne. The order for firing will be given immediately after this two hours' term. All the serious civilian losses caused by this artillery fire would not correspond with the well known American humanity. The German Commander. "To the German Commander, "Nuts!" The American Commander." Attachments:

Speaking of Foxholes, does anyone on the German side have the capability to fire mortars or any type of nerf artillery on US forces occupying Bastonge and the surrounding areas?
I think this would be a great element to the game if US forces had to deal with that.

Back when I was 10 I went camping with my uncle, it was -5. I have a handy little sleeping back that is heavily insulated, it's very comfortable in cold weather rather then warm temps.

Ya, I think I can handle that part. While it is not a "mortar" per say, it is a Panzerfaust and it shoots well over the distance of a football field. Should be perfect for lobbing Nerf and BB type artillery into the evil Allied position over long distances

Excellent JP!
Bring plenty of ammo and we'll have some sort of cease fire to give you back some of the nerfs when you run low. Or perhaps we'll fire them back at you with our bazooka ;D
I'm looking forward to running around the town and woods doing a Carwood Lipton impression, "Stay in your foxholes"!

Hey guys! I'm new to this website. I'm a world war 2 enthusiast and have two ww2 guns. So we just meet up at "ground zero airsoft" at that date, submit form, pay and we play? First off, welcome to the boards. The normal protocol for attending events is to monitor the event thread for updates and instructions. Send in your registration to the email specified and take advantage of the optional prepay (via paypal) for a discount. Event coordinators will list event rules, expectations and impression requirements. First and foremost you have to have a WW2 impression that goes with the event scenario. You will also need a WW2 gun. No modern guns will ever be allowed. For the Battle of the Bulge event, the accepted impressions will be U.S Infantry and/or 101st Airborne. For German, any type of German Army impression would be accepted. We will also accept French resistance fighter impressions as well. Once you get squared away with all of this, you must show up by the designated arrival time, check in and THEN we play. Be assured our events are very organized and well run. Collectively we are all WW2 enthusiasts first and foremost and airsoft players next. All details concerning this event will be posted sometime around Nov. 20th. Feel free to ask any questions that come to mind. We are all happy to help and always welcome new blood. Hope this helped.

Special Announcement
After conferring with several key members of our organization, the consensus is to move the event to a date that should have better weather than in January. Therefore it is the decision of the event organizers to do so.
The month of March has been nominated for consideration and a specific date will be forth coming. I will be factoring in all variables (such as Easter/Spring Break) to try and pick a date that will make sense not only for adults but the kids as well.
Shortly I will start up a new poll thread for date choices. I will also be changing the name of this event to: "Bastogne".
Once the poll thread starts, I encourage everyone to chime in with their own wish list for the event date. Meanwhile I will continue to confer and plan every aspect for this event.
My apologies if this has caused any inconveniences for anyone.
Thank you for your attention,
Migs

Hello, everyone.
I just wanted to know if this event was still happening and what the definite date is.
A little about me I guess (as I can't seem to find an "Introduction" forum)....
Name is Kiko. I have been playing this crazy game of grown men, dress up and BB guns for quite a while now -- my first taste being 2 decades ago in the Philippines (yes, I'm Asian lol). I'm from Southern NH and have been very active in the mainstream modern airsoft community for a few years now.
Here's the problem, I've become increasingly bored and jaded with it...it's just not that fun any more really and as much as I love the game (and I really really do) I need to find something new and challenging to keep the game exciting and fun for me, not to mention fulfill my desire for MILSIM (which never happens any more since it seems that airsoft has sold out for commercialism and profit).
Now, I've always been a military history buff as I am sure most airsofters are and have always been interested in Historical MILSIM (I'm still a member of HMSG and have had a great deal of fun in experiencing Vietnam Airsoft -- both at GZA for RECONDO 2009 and Silent Sunset II in VA). One aspect of Historical Airsoft that has always intrigued me though and which I have yet to fully experience is legitimate WWII Airsoft -- it doesn't hurt either that WWII history is an interest of mine, as I'm sure it is of those here.
Fast forward to the present. Thanks to CDI (who came into the modern scene early this year touting his best Axis impression and his passion for WWII airsoft), Wiki (who has decided to take the leap with me), the discovery of this forum and the fact that WWII Airsoft seems to really be alive and well right in my backyard and the fact that there could very well be a legit WWII a day after my bday next month...well.... here I am!
So with that wall of text being said, I really look forward to getting involved in all things WWII Airsoft, getting to know the fine folks of this community and hopefully getting to sling some period plastic with everyone soon.
Cheers!

I'm with this guy ^
I've been playing airsoft since 2009, never really played too much 'backyardsoft' I jumped right into playing at big regional games and I've always been a fan of history. I'm a self described 'guccisofter' who puts way too much time and effor into their kit focusing on having the highest speed stuff. With my geardo urges I think WWIIsoft is probably a good place for me because theres alot of focus on a period accurate kit and weapon which I'm all for.
I'm currently deployed overseas but will return in a few months and will be looking to fill out some WWII kits and grabs some guns! Can't wait to see folks out on the field.
