Welcome Kiko and Wiki to the boards and the WW2 Airsoft community here in the NorthEast.
To first answer the question if this event is still going to happen. As the event producer and I give you a definitive YES.
What still needs to be determined is the actual date and location. At our last event two weekends ago, the majority of those present decided that having an event in the dead of January may be too cold to do so as most camp out for at least one night. We are leaning towards a March date that I will have announced very soon. The venue for this event may also change as I am looking into several possibilities.
The main theme for this event is U.S forces occupying and defending the town of Bastogne. Battle scenarios and themes will be forthcoming. My main goal is to pick a venue that will conform to our main theme. GZA has been a familiar and fun place for us to hold our past several events, but I feel mixing it up a bit may create more interest and increase attendance.
Please monitor these boards as I will be starting a whole new thread and will rename the event "Bastogne'.
Hope this helps,
Migs

Thanks for the very prompt reply, Migs. I must say, I'm a bit bummed out that it will not be happening in January, but then again, I do understand the weather concerns of the participants -- we did Stalingrad in February last year here at RPC in Fremont, NH, it was about 20 below with the wind chill, I couldn't open a water bottle without the water freezing as soon as it made contact with the air, and it was quite a brutal day of airsoft. Also, this will allow me to get my kit together (maybe the G&G Kar98 will be out by then too), Wiki will be back from the sandbox and I won't have to ditch my kid's 13th birthday party to play WWII airsoft lol.
Thanks again for the warm welcome, and please also consider this an open invite to come up to our neck of the woods and show these "themesofters" what WWII airsoft is really about.
Looking forward to more info in the near future.

Hi guys.
I was one of the re-enactors at the day od days event earlier this year. My friends and I are looking to get more into the airsoft scene.
We already have german kits together, all authentic and period correct. No farbing here. What we need to know is where to get good airsoft guns and equipment.
Also, I played paintball for a couple of decades, so I picked up a few tricks here and there. If you are still looking for mortars, I know a way to build them. The ones we used to make would launch a dozen paintballs a hundred yards. I am assuming they will launch quite a few bb's a good distance. If anyone is interested, pm me and I will make a drawing up for you. They dont cost that much to build.
And I almost forgot, we are going to try to attend this event.
Thanks, Bill

Thanks, Bill Well, though I am new to the WWII Airsoft scene and still feeling my way around for gear and such, if there is one thing I know...it's airsoft weapons and the like as I have been playing this crazy game for quite a while now. What are you looking at getting? I might be able to help, and maybe you can help guide myself and my other WWII converted friend (Wiki) when it comes to gear, clothing, etc as I'm sure we will have some questions. Hit me up if you'd like. Cheers!

Thanks, Bill Hello Bill, I'm glad to hear that some of the re-enactors from "Day of Days" are getting into Airsoft. As the host from that event, that was one of my main goals to get Steve K's re-enactors interested in our hobby. As for getting good WW2 airsoft weapons, check the G2 category on the message board and you'll find lots of suggestions. I'll PM you with some more. Looking forward to seeing you again this March. Hi Bill, I think you will find quite a nice choice of German airsoft weapons available. It really depends of what your skirmish style is. Below are some of the Axis weapons I have used and their results. Hopefully it will help you decide what suits you best: MP44 - Made by AGM or Cybergun. Great reproduction weapons and reasonably priced (around $200). These guns have excellent range (probably the most out of all WW2 automatic weapons) and have a huge magazine of 450 bbs. Make sure you select the real wood version as opposed to the plastic one and then just age the stock once you get it. MP40 - Made by AGM non blowback around $100. SRC has a blowback version around $250. I have only used the AGM version, its range is much shorter than the MP44 and has a mag of only 50 bbs. You can purchase after market mags that will hold 100 bbs. Great looking reproduction, mostly all metal. Kar98 - This is a bolt action spring loaded single shot weapon designed for long range. You get to shoot only one bb at a time but you gain range out of it. Most of the cheap ones (Dboys, Mauser around $200) are not worth the money. Their range is limited and for a single shot weapon it is not worth it. Several people on this forum make some excellent airsoft Kar98 out real ones. They have both range and accuracy and have the true look and feel of a real Kar98 (not the cheap Chinese wood). Expect to pay upwards of $750 for one of these but they are well worth the money. PPSH - Made by Ares (around $250) is a new release this year and feedback has been excellent. It has blowback, good range and a huge mag that holds 2000 bbs. This seems to be the new kid on the block of weapons and while I have not skirmished with it, I have fired it and seen it at some of our events and it is a fine reproduction. I expect we are going to see more and more of these at our events as it is a nice looking and good performing gun. MG42- You might be able to find a few MG42 airsoft weapons but most are converts from real MG42's that people have done themselves. Shoei does have a version they sell but you are looking upwards of $2000 for that version. If you want an MG42 I recommend trying to get a real one and converting it. You will probably spend less then the Shoei and feel more satisfied knowing you have a real one you converted. That is about it for production WW2 German weapons that I have seen or used. Most can be purchased online for a good price. Evike and Airsoftmegastore seem to have pretty good prices but you will find others if you search. Hope this helps get you started PS: I am glad to hear some reenactors are considering joining the WW2 airsoft ranks. I know when we had you guys at Days of Days everyone was pretty excited. We all try very hard to make sure our gear and tunics are authentic looking and having more guys like you on our team will only help us all achieve that perfect non farb look.

Cryonics,
I remember you from DOD. Thanks for the info. I will make sure my guys get all of this also.
For myself, I am leaning towards the MP44. Having used real versions of all these weapons except the ppsh in reenacting, the MP44 is by far my favorite. And since I cant afford the $17000 for a real one, I will live out my fantasies with the airsoft one.
I had a thought earlier. If you are hoping to get more reenactors or if there are alot of reenactors already here, March might be a hard month to get attendance. I dont know this years dates yet, but I am pretty sure GAP 2 is in March. Gerry might know the dates off the top of his head.

Yes, Gap 1 is in January. There are two Gaps a year, and the second one actually has a better battle than the first.

I asked around. No one seems to know the actual dates yet. The problem is everybody is talking about GAP 1 right now. I sent out a couple of emails, hopefully I will have an answer for you tomorrow.
It does look like a lot of units are pulling out of GAP1 because of the things going on down there, but I wouldnt count on it being a bust. There will still be plenty of units attending.
I also dont know how many reenactors you get at the games. I dont know if having one of the GAPs going on would hurt your attendance very badly.

Kiko,
The Gaps are awesome. Over a 1000 reenactors, tanks, jeeps, halftracks, artillery, etc, etc.
Gap 2 is all about the battle and is only a weekend long.
Gap1 is a week long, has a huge flea market, a french cafe for us Germans, a club for those silly allies, A public battle, a veterans talk and dinner. Just a ton of stuff going on.

I've been doing the Gap since 1990. Haven't done the battle in years. Its great to hang out with friends you don't get to see much, and set up really nice barracks displays. Which, unfortunately this year will not happen due to the new barracks we will be quartered in. The event itself normally starts Thursday. Though you can get there as early as Tuesday if you like.

Ah, ok. I was exploring the possibility of just quitting airsoft and going full on reenactment late 2010 and the unit I was talking to invited me to this -- I remember now.
Well, I certainly hope the two events don't conflict. I need to get my legit WWII Airsoft on and Wiki and I are really promoting the crap out of it in MAASF -- the modsoft forum that we belong to and was our only internet hang out until we discovered the awesomeness of WWII Airsoft and this board.

The Gap is GREAT for shopping though. Its basically a WW2 reenactor mall. You can buy your whole kit, head to toe if you have the cash. Most vendors will cut sweet deals for you too.

I am being told the dates arent out yet for GAP2. I will let you guys know as soon as I hear something.
Kiko, If you guys still want to do reenactment, come join my unit. You can use the same gear for both, all you would need is a rifle. This invite goes out to anyone looking to do both. We are a new unit, and we are looking for troops to fill the ranks. We will start fielding after GAP1. We are 1st SS LSSAH.
I dont want to turn this thread into a recruiting thing, so I will end it here. If anyone is interested, just PM me.
To get back on topic, hows the event planning coming?

Just to reply to Bill -- I would love to experience what a real reenactment. But the fact is, there is just no way I can ever meet the uniform and gear standards imposed by such events and groups. Thanks though.
ok, back on topic.
WWII Airsoft, baby!

Kiko, I would not discount trying to achieve the perfect reenactment look so fast. It can be done with a lot of patience and good coaching. I keep trying at every event I go to and it is thanks to those that informed me of my inaccuracies that I am able to improve my impression each time. So while you may not achieve it off the bat just keep trying and over time I think you will find that it can be done.
Being part of a group that have perfect impressions is very satisfying and having people that continue to perfect their impressions is very gratifying. The WW2 airsoft organization is trying very hard to push people to meet those standards and we will work with anyone that wants to learn the subtleties of each factions tunic and willing to work on improving their look.

Hey guys, I am a personal friend of Kiko and Wiki's. I have a (relatively Flaggrantly Wrong) Fallschirmjager kit assembled so far - Helmet, splinter cover, replica wool pants + tan/water smock... working on piecing the rest together.
My grandfather served all over Europe in the U.S. Army and was wounded quite badly outside St. Vith after fighting through the entirety of the Bulge. I think airsoft is a pretty cool extension of getting to honor the guys who fought there, especially him.
Would love to see this event come together. Look forward to meeting you all!
