Hello all.
After a long search, I decided I did not want to dish out $10,000+ for an M2 flamethrower, just to use as a replica at the Living History events. I have a friend with a real M2, and he let me take countless measurements, and I now have all the measurements for everything on an M2 Flamethrower. (just in case someone needs them)
I have a deadline of August 19th, and I started the project on July 11th.
I have the entire flamethrower 90% done. I am still working on getting a real M2 hose, or something similar, and the cam-lock coupling that attaches the hose to the tanks. It is completely water-tight, so water can be added for realistic weight. (68 lbs).
I will post up photos I took during the build, and the current progress later this evening.

You could put a Co2 tank in one half of the backpack tank and BBs in the other half and attach a valve to the trigger assembly and make an Airsoft flamethrower xD
That'd be neat haha.

So here are the photos in order of when I took them. Oh, and I'm not going to be making any airsoft anything. I am outta the airsoft stuff guys, just Living History and Blank-Fire. The tanks are made from stainless steel fire extinguishers ironically. I was lucky to find two identical tanks. They have the perfect radius on the top and bottom, however they are unfortunately 1/2 inch larger in diameter than the real deal. But who can tell without a measuring tape? haha I had trouble with the pressure bottle (middle tank), so I started work on the rear trigger assembly: I ended up hand fabricating the pressure bottle from steel tubing. Thought I would go for the USMC forest green... Didn't like it... And here are the current progress photos: Tell me what you think.... -Deac

Very impressive! Did you make the nozzle and gun unit?

The nozzle is made of exhaust pipe, and the wand is scratch built using steel pipe, marine grade plywood, and pvc pipe. The data plate is made up from brass plate, and a custom decal I made. So far I have about 100 hours into the build.

Wow, that looks fantastic!
If you wanted for Blankfire you could use the same idea and instead of BBs fill the second tank with talc or baby powder mixed with red dye. You'd definitely be the cool kid on the block with that xD
Looks absolutely fantastic as is though, good job!

You do very nice work!! I really gotta applaud the decal over the brass plate, looks authentic!

Echoing what the others said, you did a very good job! the fire extinguishers look the part as fuel tanks (ironic, but hey, it works!), and the m2 flamethrower plate gives it a nice touch.
Would love to see someone wearing this bad boy.

you should think about doing these for sale. There is a fellow that makes a replica for 3,000+ dollars. He sells them pretty regularly too. The m1 is 4500+

I have put quite a bit of thought into it, and I will be making one more M2, and two M1s. I will attempt to get $2k a piece, and see where it goes. If I can get that much, I will continue building and selling.

Update: I have been waiting a few weeks for an original hose to show up... Haven't seen it yet. So I ended up going out and buying some temporary hose, and hardware, just to make sure its ready for the event coming up. (August 19-21st)
I will go through the USMC tubs, throw on some gear, and upload some photos of me wearing the lollipops .

After about 20 minutes, the 68 pounds really starts to take a toll. So I think at the living history events, I wont fill it with water. Its about 35 pounds without the water, so it will still look heavy.. Haha

What did you use as the hose connecting the tanks to the wand

looks like just some spare 1" or 1.25" hydraulic line...

Does anyone know where/how the little tank connects to the wand? The connection seems to be hidden behind all the tanks and I'm trying to make a somewhat realistic-looking full scale mock-up of this flamethrower, and I realize it really doesn't matter for a non-functional piece, but it's really bugging me.

Perfect! Just what I needed. Thanks.
By the way, I found that a 7/8" inside diameter dishwasher hose works nicely for the flamethrower hose. I'll post images when I get this rig closer to being finished.
