So I'm trying to finish a German impression for the eastern front battle in October. I already have some german stuff laying around so while I look for the rest of the stuff I was wondering if the Dboys kar98k was worth buying. I know it needs the shells which is probably going to be a pain in the @ss so I was looking for the tanaka version, but thats going to be too much money for me. So I was wondering if anyone ever tried using it at a game, and if it's really that bad (even though I'm guessing it is) And does anyone know if you can use it without the shells, by loading one by one in the chamber? I thought that might actually be easier than having to load the shells.
thanks

I have used it before and it can be a pain but it can also be a great weapon. If you carry around some WD40 on the field it will make using the bolt a lot smoother. It also requires some strength because of the spring in the bolt. A suggestion is purchase a dboys with a bar10 and make a conversion, thats only if you are willing to spend more money and do the work. I hoped this helped and im not sure if you can load one bb at a time.

i 2nd most of what is said by Ackack, if you have the hand tools and the determination you can make a conversion before October. and No you cant use it without the shells. however if you have the money, i saw a really cool pic of a para with an MG42 belt around his shoulders loaded with D boys shells. i assume he was using it as one bad-ass bandoleer. and after each shot picking up each round and shoving it back on the belt.

Ok so I might try that conversion if I have enough money when I'm done buying the rest of my uniform. Is it hard to do, I've done a couple custom guns with my friend whos really good with that stuff but nothing this big (since it's kind of expensive to screw up lol) So any websites you can think of that sell the Kar98k and the Bar10 kind of cheap?

Mine is not good, I modified a barrel to put in it and the gun is more accurate but is still prone to jamming, worn out extractors, and numerous other problems. I got mine because it was $20

I heard that there was a Gas conversion bolt for this gun. Does anyone know where I could could find one and whether they actually improve the gun's performance? Thanks.

From what Ive heard on others reviews, even with the gas bolt, It still doesnt compensate for the misgivings of the shell ejection system. Its basically the same as the springer version, but with a much easier to actuate bolt. I would still reccomend either a Bar-10 conversion or any of the other gas k98s out there.

A bit late, sorry ob. I did in fact end up doing the bar10\kar98k conversion and it turned out great. Since then I've actually done the same thing with an M1903 Springfield.
