I've never heard of the haversack alone being directly attached to the belt. I suppose you could do it (my ATF repro has a small rear strap with a hanger hook), but I don't think it would be very useful. On the haversack, take the shoulder straps and clip them to the long, thin rings on either side of the pack to make it into a small backpack. Then you can wear it on top of the rest of the field equipment (cartridge belt / pack suspenders, or pistol belt / pack suspenders) and be able to drop it easily if you need to.
The full 782 pack system is pretty cool but I don't see the utility for airsoft games. I have a shelter half, an e-tool with cover, a knapsack (the lower pack), and a poncho. They stay in my truck toolbox and I use them occasionally. I wouldn't want to pack all that stuff around during a normal airsoft game though.

I figure I can contribute to the thread... Here's the most recent photo I've got of my equipment. Going for an early 1945 Iwo Jima look. It's all real stuff - for airsoft, I'd use an M1A1 Thompson with the spare mags in the shoulder bag. All original stuff except for the two ATF repro first pattern canteen covers and the compass pouch. The M1 Carbine needs the early features - still haven't bought that stuff yet though. A Camillus Navy Mk.2 fighting knife, a Superior Magneto June of 1944 lensatic compass (M1938), and a 1942 serial range "UNITED STATES PROPERTY" M1911A1.

I forgot to add, as far as packing my pack, I try to keep it as close as I can to WWII stuff, however I haven't purchased any personal items yet. So I just pack some extra socks, my mess kit, cans of corned beef hash, ravioli, fruit, beef stew, packets of instant coffee, ass wipe from MREs, etc.

As with so many of these comments Aubrey, you look great with the only exception being the web gear, boots, leggings and uniform needs the soiling and grime that only field use can provide. Field this set up!

I've got a game coming up in a couple weeks, completely new set of gear, at least for me. Much more USMC specific than I started with. Can't wait to field it, being April I figured I'll go Okinawa. My property is pretty soggy til mid June so it won't take long to dirty everything up.
New gear: WWII Impressions P41 set, leggins, and helmet cover w/slits Fixed loop helmet Original pistol belt, US marked ATF USMC canteens covers, 2 second pat 1 third ATF haversack and suspenders Boondockers, HBO overrun T-handle w/army contract cover Original M2 first aid pouch Original M1924 Carlisle pouch ATF WWII t shirt USMC ID tags Repro kbar sheath w/MkII knife 5 cell Thompson pouch
My Thompson has even been improved if you will. Original stock and butt plate, metal lower, repro 'L' sight, original sling swivels. Will post pictures as soon as I can, maybe some before the game takes place.
