Hello there I have a few questions regarding the M-37 Field phone. I have looked into them and have some differing information and none seem from clear sources. So I am hoping someone who has owned and experimented with the M-37s can help me out.
I recently bought 2 from Coleman military surplus and to my surprise both worked (after a good cleaning). So tonight I purchased three more and a field phone dialer.
My questions are these.
What gauge Speaker wire is the most optimal for performance while being modestly priced?
How long of a wire run Can I make? I have heard a mile. Is that true? Also does a longer wire run = a smaller ringing noise due to the distance that has to be traveled by the electrical current?
With the field phone dialer (tap) Do I need just a headset to listen in to phone calls or do I need to hook this up to a field phone? (if your wondering why I got the field dial-er tap thingy its so in OP's that I run OP4 units can perform acts of espionage and listen into communications.
I think I will custom make a switch board for this. Any suggestions on how to do one properly? I don't want to spend over 150$ on parts for that. I plan on using a nice burl wood on the wood parts and speaker audio jacks for the switch part.
Anything else I should know about these phones? I currently have the 2 I have right now set up between a work trailer and my company's machine shop and they are just awesome. I know they are Swedish but every time it rings I'm tempted to yell "ALLO BERLIN?!" into the receiver. It has also given me renewed interest in learning Morse code.
On a final note how well could these be incorporated into a ww2 game historically? Did the swedes sell any of their communications Gear to the Germans? Or if I used these would stitch nazis cringe and have hissy fits?
Thanks!
PS incase your wondering what they look like.
