This is an interesting find at the US Army Center of Military History. It's a PDF of a book written after the war about three battles in late 1944; Arnaville, in Northeast France, near Metz, Altuzzo, in Northern Italy, and Schmidt, in the Huertgen Forest. One of the authors is Charles MacDonald, author of the WWII classic, "Company Commander." I've just perused sections of it (I'm not fond of long reads on-line. I might print this out), but it looks like there's a lot of good information that could provide scenarios for games. Altuzzo particularly looks like it would fit the California terrain. www.history.army.mil/html/books/011/11-7-1/index.html
