Looks like the first pattern carrier to me, the Army didn't use those snaps, and would have U.S. stamped on the front of the cover. The wire hook on the back is also an indication that it is USMC

You most likely won't have the highest bid for long, I don't see this set going for only $5.50. 1st pat covers are very hard to find, let alone in this condition

It may be one of the Chinese or Korean repro canteens.

On second look, I notice something else that does not look right. Look at where the hook is attached. On the one shown above, it seems a little low, the one shown on the link is towards the top.

What's confusing me the most is it's condition, it looks like it was used because of the fold in the canvas. with some light wear spots, staining and slight fading with most of it faded on the front. Of course the flash doesn't help at all. Link: www.ebay.com/itm/230798439615?ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1426.l2649And I don't really care about the canteen, I figure it was replaced. I need to stop browsing Ebay late at night ...

I had two of those same canteens. There is a little tag that fell of the back of it(In my belief) that would have said "made in occupied Japan".

I dunno about Japan. More likely the United States of China. The thread used for sewing is very small. The cloth part of the hanger probably wouldn't last a week in the bush. The seam is down the front. I don't believe it is old or original.

C'mon, one more person bid one dollar more. I didn't mind it at 7$ but 14$ is just way more than I want to pay for it.

Well if you get it, it will be an OK field cover that you can use without worrying about ruining an original. $14 is not too bad ;D

Yeah it doesn't look to bad. I'd just rather spend it on something else.
EDIT: Alright! Saved by random luck ;D
