So our unit "ABLE COMPANY" the WWII US Airborne element of THE REGIMENT went into action with two BARS this weekend. We run patrol events wherein its part tactics training part engagement. The concept is simple the two units 'Able Company" and 'Kampfgruppe Melick' patrol to contact and go to work. Classic fire manuever as well as breaking contact [rare for airsoft stand and die approaches] and displacing. It was a great day with light rain and flat brushy terrain. the results: one BAR worked spot on. no misfiring, steady feed from three different mags and quite good range as several FJ and SS Soldaten found. BAR #2 was a lot spottier. the motor had sized up in tests the night before but was remedied for the patrol event. However throughout the patrol the BAR was misfeeding and its rage was unimpressive throughout. It needs an overhaul so out of two we had a 50/50 result. not sure how to explain this as we still need to see a tech to diagnose the situation. overall though, the weapons are very sturdy, and the sound they make is distinct. Not to mention it looks amazing to see the US weapon payload spread across more than just thompsons our five man patrol [we currently have an astounding 12 man sized unit] fielded a para m1 carbine, 2 BARs, and a thompson and grease gun. I'd have put two garands in but both were down. on another note a real wood foregrip went on to one of our BARs with next to no effort Here are some pics of the action

Awesome! very impressive. I know your group has a grease gun or two as well dont they? i just ordered another Grease gun for my armory. is it yours or Grendls BAR that is giving you trouble? I suspect the long barrel and the closed muzzle brake probably create the distinctive sound as my home builds also generate a very different sound than the base M14

currently the full ABLE CO? REGIMENT arsenal includes
2 BARs 2 M1 Garands 1 M1 para stock carbine 1 m1 carbine full stock 2 Greaseguns 7-8 Thompsons 3-4 .45 pistols
as soon as the ics or g&g m1 comes out I expect everyone in the unit to get one
yes I'd say the muzzle breaks deep hollow space contributes to its distinct 'report'

I like a louder report and actually wish there were perhaps airsoft optional devices (not too obtrusive in appearance) that would enhance the sound and create a muzzle flash. it would advance the suspension of belief and reduce "campers"

A muzzle flash doesn't seem possible, but increased sound is a possibility

Both would be pretty cool, especially increased sound. Muzzle flashes aren't always apparent during the day though. I've thought about tinkering around with the gearbox to make it louder but I decided not too. I don't want to mess anything up.

If a company or someone could make a copy of the Noveske adjustable amplifier flash hider but make it smaller and able to fit the inside of the muzzle break, then I feel the noise factor would be increased

Unfortunately the very size of the muzzle cone is what serves as the amplifier I would imagine?

Pretty much. I have seen "silencer" devices that contain some sort of powder, so there is a "puff" with every shot. I also seem to recall some company with a tracer unit that had slots to make the illumination flash visible from the sides as well as the front.

My BAR went through a skirmish pretty well last saturday. But Towards the end it stopped feeding correctly, somehow the feed tube has become misaligned I think. Also guy's if you start tinkering/taking it apart it's going to develop some quirks. I'm going to post a thread soon in the armory.
@paladin6: I love the silver bolt, I think I'll do the same on mine.

How have you tinkered with your BAR to cause it to develop quirks?

Standard stuff, like taking it apart and putting it back together. Nothing too serious just a couple tiny fitment issues if you don't reassemble it just so.

I find that the guys who always seem to have trouble with their guns are the ones who feel compelled to tinker with them. I rarely go into a gear box and leave things stock and unalterred. It is extremely rare that i have malfunctions even with loaner guns and when i do its almost always battery related.
There is so much internally that can be missaligned that i dont crack into a gear box unless its not working and i have tried everything else. With that said if someone wants to provide a tutorial on the inner workings of this rifle start a new thread and Iwill sticky it as a resource.

How does one go about taking off the plastic handguard and replace it with a real wood one?

The replica has a front hanguard that is attached with screws. This is true of the real BAR as well but the real one had fewer screw holes. Remove the screws and the handguard and youll discover that the actual handguard part attaches with little modification. The actual butt stock does not work without considerable modifications. Actual bar furniture is available but quite expensive. Numrich has them in stock currently. Incidently, feed problems very often are battery related. When you use a more powerful battery it changes the rate of fire and sometimes throws things off. Likewise when your battery begins to drain the rate of fire and smoothness also changes (slows down) and this frequently causes improper feeding. Quality batteries and proper charges are critical to any aegs performance expecially those on squad automatic weapons or crew served MGs.

Seeing that I just finished college finals, I was excited to see my BAR finally when I arrived home. I will just say that im truly impressed with the gun's externals, i dont know if its just mine, but the fake wood furniture is really dark and looks excellent! Like all my other guns, I like to upgrade the internals, I ran into a few snags with this. I was able to change out the spring guide( had to shave down metal posts to fit), I was also able to change the piston, piston head, cylinder to a type zero, cylinder head, but not air nozzle. I dont know why the modify air nozzle wont feed properly into the hop up, so I have to stick to the original for now. Overall I am quite pleased with my purchase except for my magazines, It may just be me but it seems like you have to wind the wheel alot to get a constant flow of bbs. If anyone would like to see pictures of disassembly, I can try and do so.

Hopefully some viable mid caps or low caps will become available. I for one hate hi caps and always have. With the garands coming in semi auto with 42 rounds a 110 mid cap with full auto should position the BAR relatively speaking just about right with Machine guns featuring BOX winding mags and perhaps the sub machine guns firing at a lower FPS we would have fairly representative fire power established.
Guys the possibilities for our hobby just keep growing!

The VFC mags are high caps. Well the mag its self was 55 dollars but i made a purchase of 100 dollars buying the prowin ak hop up unit for the BAR, a new spring guide for it and a cylinder head and piston head. But with the 20% off coupon and a 10 dollar voucher it came to 73 dollars.

Does anyone know how to remove the hop up out of the BAR? I want to install a 590mm tightbore barrel and dont know how to remove it. If anyone could post pictures doing so it would be greatly appreciated.

The only problem with the hop up unit is i dont know how to remove it from the BAR! I need a guide or pictures to be able to figure it out. I ordered the prowin v3 hopup unit, it wont line up perfectly so I have to modify it alittle to get it to fit, but im anxious to get it to work once I figure out how to remove the original hop up. Oh also, you guys were correct about the m14 pouches. I ordered an open m14 pouch and the BAR mags fit perfectly!

For pouches obviously the BAR ammo belt is ideal but they also have a three pocket slung bandoleer in canvas that are wonderful items. they show up from time to time and obviously work well.

Ya i would get that but I dont really do rennactments, I just like to play with my friends and needed a way to carry mags on my plate carrier. But I FINALLY figured out how to get the hop up out of the gun. I basically had to disassemble the whole gun to get to it, but I was able to install a 509mm madbull tightbore with ease.

Under the front handguard there are 5 allen head screws and once those 5 are removed, slide the outter barrel forward, and then the hop up unit can be pulled out the back of the reciever
