I wouldn't get the mess tin from Hikishop, the lid looks too tall. The canteen looks nice but it is the medic version. The difference is the medic version is larger 1 liter in size. The only thing I would get from Gavin is the Tunic and Trousers. The hikishop webgear is fine. The best gaiters are 1944 Militaria or At the Front. Spearhead Militaria helmets are decent and so are Military Tours. I'd stay away from Sturm breadbags and gaiters, they look pretty bad. Hessen carries sturm stuff just so you know what it is. As far as the boots go swiss boots are the best bang for your buck. Otherwise I'd suggest one of the vendors I mentioned above. www.militarytour.com/Reproductions/WW11/German/Uniforms/Low.htmThey need hobnails, and heel irons. It will cost about $40 to put them all on. Still they are cheaper then Sturm boots and will hold up for a lifetime. Their mess kit is a repro of the later BGS mess kit. You should look for a postwar Berlin Police mess kit as they're almost identical to wartime. I would not worry about using a 1 liter canteen at all. They were used by anyone who could get them. You do not want one that has all of the medic harness and strap stuff though. I love the extra capacity of the one I've been using for many years. Both At The Front and Hessen sell Sturm uniforms. They're decent entry level uniforms that are well made. Andy

Alright, off subject... How rare was it to see LW Field Division soldiers with T/W jackets? Tan and water wasn't introduced until late 43 and not in widespread use until mid 44. Control of the LFDs went over to the Heer in November of 43 along with their supply chain. The splinter B ground combat jacket would have been very common even after the Heer took over as it was issued to almost everyone in the LFDs. Skip the tan and water and the Luftwaffe M43 if you're doing a pre-Heer LFD. Andy

I've got a ZF41 K98 (real rifle) and it's about the most pitiful excuse for a scope. It's 1.5 power and long eye relief. To do a sniper impression, you'd also need the appropriate scope can and binoculars. Andy

Looks pretty much like my semi-auto SBR one. Wish mine had a selector switch though! Wood looks nice too. Thanks for the recommendation! Andy

hello everyone! Im new here and this is my first post, How do you guys feel about using a vietnam era helmet? I just bought a cybergun thompson and I have one mag, Im gonna get the mag pouch for tommy gun and a ww2 uniform. I have a full loadout of vietnam gear, belts, uniforms and all that. What from the nam era would you consider acceptable for ww2? Canteen pouches, holsters etc, thanks for the advice! I don't know that the Vietnam era helmet is bad to start with as externally, it's just like a WW2 rear seam helmet. Chinstraps are different color but can be corrected and you could use a WW2 liner with khaki suspension. Very little Vietnam gear is the same and I'd spend time looking for used gear that is correct and sales at the major vendors (ATF has nice sales). Andy

Looking at trying airsoft after 16 years of reenacting. Have all of the field gear to do either Thompson or Garand (K98 too) but looking for opinions/reviews on what is out there for both. Just started carrying a semi-auto Thompson when reenacting and love it but yikes .45ACP blanks are expensive! Andy

Those repro canteens don't look too bad. Original aluminum canteens can get kinda flaky too. I've used the same 2 originals for years in re-enacting. Just make sure that you empty them after events and store them with the cap off. If the leather is thin, try Troy Allison. He makes wonderful repro straps and caps (plus other stuff too). His Ebay name is allibaba34 and his website is www.kriegsendemilitaria.com/Index.htmlAndy

The only 30 round mag pouches were the 3-cell version that was used by the Marines. Everyone else was issued 5-cell 20 round pouches and/or the mag bag. My 30 rounders stay nice and snug in my 5-cell pouch but I usually just put my 20 rounders there and my 30s in the mag bag.

I tire quickly of blanks...it's cheaper to throw money at people and at least they will stop and look around when you do rather than pretending nothing is happening. That does get really old and airsoft ammo has got to be cheaper than blanks! Andy

I think that the size of the state really hurts attendance at both airsoft and blankfire events. When coupled with the insane prices for gas, people are just not traveling as much to events that are not close to home. I'm sure politis is an issue too but people will travel for a well run event. I've been doing blank fire since 96 and still manage to attend about the same number of events every year but they're not as far away.

I'd find out what units came from the area where you live and go with that or find out what units your relatives were in. Andy

I bought one of their fliegers with green piping to do LFD in renacting and it's OK. I think that they're a tad too short compared to my LB version but not bad overall. Andy

Unless you have big bucks for an original size 70 shell, the best option may be to rework the liner of one of the Chinese repro 68s. Should be fairly easy to conceal. Andy

Other than being too clean, the only thing that sticks out to me is the y-straps. They may be original but they're probably not German ones. The construction isn't the same. Check out www.atthefront.com and see how they should look. Overall, I think you're doing well to start and I wish we had a bunch of people with your enthusiasm doing reenacting!
